Keven:

"I think you are confusing the terms "Christian" and "christianist".
I am a Christian, tho' certainly far, far to the left of most American Christians.
"christianist" is a neologism for those gay-bashing, self-righteous, ultra-nationalistic people who define their love of God through hatred of the other."

Keven:

In all loving kindness, I would like to appeal to you to stop using the word "Christianist" here. It is a neologism that almost no one in the United States uses or understands the meaning of, and your repeated use of it on this board causes misundertandings every time you put it in a sentence. Since you have a multinational background and are bilingual, you have a rich dual tradition to draw from. But I think that occasionally leads you to assume that others here are up to speed on what you mean, when your experience here should show you - very clearly - that they are not. I am not offended by the word "Christianist," nor do I disagree with your right to use it here or anyplace else you choose, but I think that anyone who has followed your posts would agree with me that it causes misunderstandings here.

I cannot and will not tell you what to do, but I appeal to you to consider a change.

Sandy,

You have a valid point. The term is quite common in the US in the political and religious blogs and journalism, among those Christians who tend to live somewhat more retiring lives, obviously, it hasn't made an inroad.

Beats me - I will not cave in to these hateful people, I will fight them with every breath in my body. Any suggestions how to discuss the topic such that I don't offend those here who don't get the term? It has been a fight for four years now, and I note that it also afflicts the seven others here besides me who use the term...

Thanks for your gentle tone. My question is serious: How shall we discuss this?

Keven:

Generally, the terms "Christian Right" or "Right-wing Christians" are understood here to mean approximately what you mean by "Christianist"; perhaps one of those phrases might convey your meaning.

Sandy,

I shall give it a try.
Sometimes I feel like we are just dumbing down the language beyond hope of repair. I refuse to give the Right-Wing Christians even 1mm, we need to fight them and fight them hard.

Your point is very well made tho'. Someone here who thinks I'm insulting 'his' Christian beliefs gets upset, then one of the blue-rinsed ladies sees the chance to create another flame-fest...and there we go, off to the races again.

Feel free to mention such things to me, please. I really want to fight these horrible people without offending those who do not belong to their ilk.

If Anyone Has...

...Another idea on what term best differentiates those who are truly Christian from those who use religion as a tool for shoving other people around, I would be happy to heat about it!

A man was walking home alone late one foggy night, when behind him he hears:

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

Walking faster, he looks back and through the fog he makes out the image of an upright casket banging its way down the middle of the street toward him.

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

Terrified, the man begins to run toward his home, the casket bouncing quickly behind
him

FASTER...

FASTER...

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

He runs up to his door, fumbles with his keys, opens the door, rushes in, slams and
locks the door behind him.

The casket crashes through his door, with the lid of the casket clapping

clappity-BUMP...

clappity-BUMP...

clappity-BUMP...

On his heels, the terrified man runs.

Rushing upstairs to the bathroom, the man locks himself in. His heart is pounding; his
head is reeling; his breath is coming in sobbing
gasps.

With a loud CRASH the casket breaks down the door.

Bumping and clapping toward him.

The man screams and reaches for something, anything, but all he can find is cough syrup!

Desperate, he throws the cough syrup at the casket...

and............................

The coffin stops

Sandy was correct in his assumption, and Keven, I apologize for assuming you were non-Christian. I also detest the right-wing hate-mongers as I have several gay cousins that are in more committed relationships than some of my straight relatives. The people who use religion to justify their hatreds are in my opinion, closet atheists in sheeps clothing. Keven, even though I may lead a somewhat sheltered existence here in fairly rural Wisconsin, I feel we may be quite similar in our attitudes and opinions. P.S., I voted for Obama, and support him wholeheartedly, what does that tell you.

Tim,

But of course, accepted. I doubt Wisconsin comes close to Fort Collins in the "back in the woods" category.

Or do you have balloon boys, too?

See!
We are more backward than you are!
HA!

Um, why do I feel like winning that one was not a victory???

Take care, Tim. Sandy is right, I, we, need to find a means to talk together, all of us.

hey gyrafoam

if they don't take me when i'm dead then i guess i'll sit somewhere and rot away cause i refuse to pay good money for my death arrangements when that money can be used while i am alive! on more fun things, like washers and road trips to get washers!

i have absolutely no family so guess i will end up like my uncle would have if i hadn't given him my plot, in potters field, if there is such a place.

to be honest after i croak i couldn't care less what happens to my remains! it won't matter (obviously) to me! i won't be here so to hell with it all!

DrHardee, you posted the truth about the paperwork, I remember getting car titles, a house deed, and our living wills, and final wills when we evacuated for Katrina.

Danemodsandy the links for you, I am not familiar with all his politics, but its a start.

I think you'll find...

...stupidity exists everywhere.

I dealt with many, many, many closed minded terrible people in Massachusetts, and somewhat fewer here in Colorado.

It all depends on who you have to deal with on a day to day basis.

Other Websites May Help

If you look at the guidelines for the Super Thread, where it says other topics.I think it means other topics for household appliances, not politics nor religion.Perhaps directing folks to other websites that deal with what they are looking for would be helpful.Im sure they are out there. Why not just stick with our appliances and other household help.We already know what other personal leanings people have and its getting to sound like a broken record. Thanks Bobby

I wonder if

they're made in China, like everything else they sell.

I one day had to buy a new toilet brush, and the choice at Walmart was between one made in Mexico and one made in China. I chose Mexico because it was closer to the US.

Donating a body to medical research is something that takes pre-arranging. They send you forms and once you fill them out and return them, the medical school sends you cards with the notice of donation and the 24 hour phone numbers to call immediately after death. They will take care of the death certificate and other stuff.
