That little turquoise thing holding that square red (box?) with aw on it is adorable!!!

What is that? A machine of some kind?

What could be in the box?

I like the new look of the home page!

Rick

I like the way the smile on the turquoise washer forms a classic "floating vee". The floating vee is IMO the universal design symbol of gracious living, given that it featured on so many TOL products. AW is absolutely the TOL board in my life as no other board comes close to the wonderful, feature-laden interface here!

I use Firefox.

I'm not seeing any of the items mentioned above nor have I noticed any navigational changes that require adjusting my behavior.

Can you guys be more specific about where these turquoise boxes and "floating vee" smiles are located?   I feel so left out!

Out of curiosity I just cranked up the AW homepage on Firefox, and it looked exactly the same as on IE. The floating vee smile is on the front of the little turquoise washer holding the detergent box to the left of the Automaticwasher.org script, which is to the left of the animated Frigidaire thumper we all know and love.

I'm using Internet Explorer 8 and I see the new homepage - love the new look, as well as the AW mascot!

Can we name this little guy?? How about Walter the Washer? Or Arnie Automatic?

For those who are not seeing the new home page yet, your browser is storing the old one in its cache memory.  Hit shift + refresh on the home page a few times and it should reset.  Might take a day or so for some browsers.

Matt, I'll keep the old home page active in the background for anyone who wishes to use the old one.  Just save old home page in your favorites and you can still use it.

With the exception of fixing the bugs this pretty much wraps up my list of changes for the site so it should stay pretty much as is for while.

We should totally name our new mascot.  And yes Rick, AW is a box of very HIGH SUDSING detergent!

invisible post.

Now that is strange and not good.  I'll look in that ASAP.

OK I'm back, about the invisible text, I put in a no-cache command on the display pages which should help.   It might take a few hours for it to take effect.

Ye Gods, what have you done? Change, for the sake of change?

That washer with the demented face looks like it came from a Clo zone soap powder advert.

Robert, thanks, but it's not the home page that I use all the time.  I used the Forums page.  Here's what I do (did...)  After reading down the list of topics and finishing a section I'd simply hit the BACK button on my browser and get back to the forums page and move on to Deluxe from Imperial, simple quick and elegant in it's own way.  Now I have to stop and scroll all the way to the top of the current forum and then click on the next section, just seems a bit clunkier to me.

Matt -- you probably have a few keys on your keyboard that let you quickly go to the top/bottom of pages etc. See if you have a PageUp/PageDown, or try Home/End etc. Some keyboards don't have those keys, but if you press a combination of keys, like Control/Up or Function/Up, it might work. Then you can just click on the icons, which is what I've been doing and it's very fast and easy.

Good luck!

New and improved!

Wow - love the 'new look' Robert! Got a little confused with the 'Daily Double' at first but even I figured it out... LOL
Thanks again Robert, you must have spent quite a lot of time planning and engineering all this. As always, thanks for caring enough to do this for us all!!

Matt then simply save the old forums page as a browser favorite and you can continue to use it.  I wont decommission it if you wish to use it, just select it once and you can backspace into to.  I always thought that extra page was redundant, I much prefer to use the header icons, but everyone's browsing habits are different.

Is it just my browser (Chrome, Mac OSX)...or are the buttons centered now (vs. left justified)...keeps throwing me off in my normal click pattern...thought I would ask.

Robert, there appears to be a sort of bug when using "advanced editing." On typing in multiple paragraphs and previewing, the 2nd and successive paragraphs wrap to shorter lines (the 1st paragraph does not, it remains at full-width). Hard carriage returns apparently are added to the text. Turning off advanced editing and removing the CRs, all the lines stay at full-width.

The screen cap below shows the effect.

Robert, thank you!

Please keep the page active.  That will work well, since in Firefox I use  All-In-One sidebar and my links quickly open on the left when I mouse over there.  Good thinking!

One question, was it a decision not to include a Quote tool in the new editing bar?  Most forums I go to have an option to quote all or part of a message when responding, I can see advantages and disadvantage to that, or am I just missing something?

I like it!

Especially the new mascot - and its a Frigidaire too!

Robert, after all the time an effort you have put into developing the functionality and features of this site you deserve a little R & R time away from it, although I doubt you will be sitting with your feet up.

Thanks for all your hard work
Al

Dan they all should be centered now.  I'm certainly not making changes for the sake of making changes.  I did this because this is the future of  web page formatting.  If you look at eBay or Facebook you see that their pages are all centered with big borders on both the left and right sides.  This is to accommodate all new kinds of devices such as the iPad, Droid, etc.  I don't want aw.org to fall behind if at all possible with all the new small web devices coming out.

Glenn I will look into that bug as well.  My main concern is not having the advanced editor delete any text.  Jon sent me an email which might have given me a hint as to why its happening.

Matt I actually didn't think of that, after everything else is working properly I will look into that.

You got it Matt, not a problem.

Actually Al Fred and I just arrived in Florida today.  We are at our dear friend Terry's house (tlee618) for the night and we are off to my Dad's tomorrow down near Fort Lauderdale/Palm Beach.  My Dad has never met his new(ish) son-in-law before before so it will be a fun visit for us all.
