OASIS!!!!!!!!

Not only did I get my new house, and a beautiful new wife, I got my Oasis set! The dryer came in so I set it up just the way I wanted it to be.

The washer is awesome. It's fun to watch it do its thang. The washer is pretty quiet. Even the spin isn't very loud. Just sounds like a UFO taking off and landing. No balance problems either. Please forgive, I'm about to blaspheme: The clothes come out dryer than a Unimatic. It does not take long to dry. 35 minutes tops.

The dryer is just as fun. You basically set the dial to the same cycle that you set the washer to and push Start. 35 minutes later, clothes are completely dry and wrinkle-free. The drum light kicks @$$. You can turn it on while drying if you want to watch the clothes dry (of course).

wow Jason, thats a decent time for a wash, 35 min ? I think most of the new front loaders take closer to an hour, thats great, I am anxious to see the vids

Agitator Model?

Has anyone been able to successfully nab a photo of the Cabrio with the agitator? Been waiting to see one. Lowes by me doesn't have it on the floor as of yet.

Malcolm, since I've seen it at my Lowes. Picture this .... Lowes, Temple Texas, July 3, 2006. If you can mentally place Sears' total care agitator (the one with the rubber fins on the bottom() in the usual Oasis tub, that's what it looks like cuz that's what it is.

I'll try to get a video out this weekend. Married life gets in the way, especially with a Scorpio woman ;-) .

My favorite cycle: Sheets/towels. It doesn't do the catalyst spin thing in the beginning. Rather, it fills the tub with water over the clothes and with a small enough load can get very splashy.

The WASH time is about 45 minutes. The dry time is about 30-35 minutes.

With all the new towels and stuff we got for our wedding, and the laundry that we generate ;-) , Helen and I had that Oasis running almost non-stop.

And talk about cleans clothes! WOW!

Sheets/Towels

Yup, for some reason it skips the load-sensing process and fills it to a somewhat preset water level, and during the wash phase senses the resistance on the wash plate and uses that to calculate the rinse level, which is lower than the wash load when washing a couple of items.

Interesting thing I found out today. I noticed that when the tub has water in it that it will rise, and the gap between the top of the outer drum and the top balance ring decreases to around 0.75 cm at the front. When the washer is draining, the drum settles, and you can sometimes hear a thump sound when that happens. If the washer is off, and you raise the tub by hand, the gap decreases, and you will notice that the wash plate then rotates independantly of the tub, and the tub "aligns" into place, sometines with a loud thud. and the wash plate and tub move at the same rate.

Glenn can 'splain this better but the tub actually floats. When the water gets high enough the tub floats and decouples from the drive motor leaving only the wash plate connected.

Then when it drains, the tub sinks back down onto the motor. That's why the wash plate will suddenly move and you hear that THUMP!

It's built like a tank and made to last. That F&P motor is very quiet and sounds like a flying saucer. A big thumbs up to WP for making this modern day dream machine.

Jonathan, that's exactly how F&P toploaders work. As I'm sure you know, there's no transmission. The basket & agitator/wash plate are driven directly by the motor shaft. There's an air dome molded into the bottom of the wash basket. It captures an air bubble during fill as the water rises which causes the basket to float and disengage from the drive coupler so the agitator (wash plate) can move separately. F&P pulses the motor repeatedly during fill to check for when the basket has disengaged (less resistance and rotational inertia at that point). I assume Oasis/Cabrio does the same. This is the first step in automatic water level sensing. Larger load, heavier fabric takes more filling to get the basket floated/disengaged.

At the end of the drain period (when the water level is sensed to have dropped), the motor will pulse forward and back a few times to ensure the slip-clutch is re-engaged so the basket can spin. There may be a THUMP when it drops into place. If the basket doesn't settle, the machine will signal a fault.
