Fresh&Easy

Wasn’t that the chain of grocery stores owned by the UKs Tesco chain?

Oh...

That’s a shame.

Mind I’m more surprised that “Tesco” couldn’t make it in the states as they’re relentless over here,

There isn’t ONE postcode (zip) area in the U.K. that doesn’t have a Tesco, and only one postcode that does not have a Tesco superstore (and even that wouldn’t be the case if Tesco didn’t pull out at the last minute as they did have planning permission approved for it).

ALDI is filling the void left by Fresh & Easy's demise and Save-A-Lot's exit from The Golden State.  You could also throw in Jewel T's flash in the pan if you really want to go back in time to the beginnings of no-frills grocers.

I thought that was the #1 store...I think it had a very narrow appeal...I enjoyed it shopping in Palm Springs, but that type of vacation rental short-term transient heavily edited neighborhood store with lots of fresh stuff (like a British supermarket, logically enough) would only "go" in certain neighborhoods (and Hemet wouldn't be my first choice for it)...actually the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs to Indio) probably was a reasonable siting for several stores right along 111 and close to downtowns...particularly all the pre-packaged stuff would be very appealing.
