I love the way the actors from these old TV shows did the commericals. I for one might be more inclined to purchase a product that was hawked by someone from the show I've been watching, its just more entertaining, not that they really know any more about the product. Personally, I'm really put off by some of these new, obnoxious commercials, and wouldn't buy the product being advertised just because of the commercial. One that comes to mind is the Cottonel Wipes commercial, and and the women asking people coming out of the port a potty after using the product if they would "go commando". As for Petticoat Junction, I never missed it, it was a great spin off of the Beverly Hillbillies. Any one remember how Granny used to do the Winston commercials? Every cabinet in her kitchen was filled with cartons of Winstons. As she puffed away she told us that "Winstons taste good like a cigerette should". Now I'm dating MYSELF![this post was last edited: 5/13/2015-13:50]

Just a little triva

The series was based on places and events in my Mom's home town of Eldon, Mo. The Shady Rest does exist there, now named the Shady rest; originally the Burris Hotel. The train long since abandoned, but ran commuter trips to the capital, Jefferson City. The main source of money in those parts were Rock farming, fishing, and the Union Electric plant at Bagnell Dam.

Pixley is named after a town in California, Hooterville is a fictional name. The junction between Pixley and Hooterville was actually Eldon between Jefferson city and Tuscumbia, the Miller County Seat.

As for the show, we never missed it. The show would have continued but at that time CBS was doing a Rural purging and cancelled their Rural shows in the name of progress.

Another piece of trivia: Sharon Tate was originally cast as Billie jo, the blond, but CBS dropped her after some "scantly clad" photos emerged. Apparently only one cast photo exists with her as the cast, she never appeared on screen, and the story was that she was released from her contract to pursue films.

Tide Commercials

as often as I saw that show growing up I don't remember the commercials! These episode Linda Kaye Henning and Guinilla Hutton. The latter named gal who became part of the HeeHaw regular cast. Didn't remember either that the laundry was a part of the kitchen!

Jetaction Don, the reason you don't remember the B&W episodes is because they were not included in the syndication release. Therefore, they were rarely shown. Believe this was also true for Bewitched and I Dream of Jeanie, and some other shows that started out B&W and then went to color shortly after.
