Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Lou, I'm pounding on the door right now,

yet Arty insists he's not home, but there's so much steam and boiler racket, I can't really figure out what the heck's going on down there,

but it CAN'T be good.

Let's OCCUPY JETCONE!!

Louis, that's hilarious. He is our 1% -er, isn't he.

I'm trying to get Arty to open the door so I can smuggle out the glass tubbed Easy, before the money mogul gets back.

The glass tub easy is nice, but...

I might just sneak into the house and snatch those beautiful radiators! If I had the means to own a pipe treading machine, buy the pipe, buy and install the boiler, and move the radiators, I'd have steam.

I read Greening Steam and was impressed. I hadn't been that glued to a book since Harry Potter. I read Greening Steam cover-to-cover in about a day (I have poor eyesight, so I tend to read a bit on the slow side). The Lost Art of Steam Heating is good too. I'd put an 86% efficient steam boiler with insulated piping against a 96% efficient gas furnace with ductwork any day and see which one costs less to run. (Hint, it won't be the forced air furnace).

I so wish I had steam radiators as I sit here and shiver. I think I'll go warm up over a cup of tea and a 1972 Kenmore 70 Series with some Roto Swirl action.

Keep warm (silently)
Dave

:)

Interesting thread...

I have no experience with steam or not water heat, I was always curious but the cooling issue seems to be the biggest drawback.

That said I will put by properly designed Forced Air System up against any other heating system.  The key is properly designed.  The entire house is comfortable, no hot or cold spots, and you don't know it's running except for a little motor hum in the background.  'The fan runs 24/7 at low speed and the burners cycles on and off at various levels as needed, on the coldest days the fan may ramp up to a higher speed, but mostly the house is just plain comfortable and it's big, close to 4k sq. ft. 2 story with finished basement.  80k BTU burner that operates at much less than that most of the time, 96% efficient .

BTW, this is not a new house, it's 46 years old this month, and this is the third furnace we've had.  Ideally I would like to add dampers and create a 2 or 3 zone system, that would make it the ultimate system, but the cost outweighs the benefits, but it could easily be done.

Occupy Jetcone

Louis that is hilarious!!

I need money to by digital film for my camera........

I grew up with forced hot air and would never live with that system again. Just started the Greening of Steam,it looks good!

Guess I'll have to go down stairs and take a close look at whats there for photo ops.

INTERESTING THREAD

MattL you are right on the money, forced air heating and cooling systems have come a long way in the past 80 years, steam has not. My 6 year old Trane 95% furnace is so quite and even you can't tell if it is heating or even running. Every room is the same temperature with no hot or cool areas. And best of all no musty bathrooms, smelly kitchen and almost no dust and wounderfull controlled humidity throughout the winter thanks to a good power humidifier.

At my partners house we use an air-source split-system heat-pump and it keeps the house at an extremely even temperature. I locked out all back up resistance heat years ago so if it gets too cold we built a fire in the fire place insert. And it is as at my house amazing when you change air filters and you see how much dirt forced air systems remove from the house. It is little wonder why I always sleep so much better as when I am at home, as my seasonal allergies don't bother me nearly as much as when I am out and about.

Exactly!

I'm bummed my electronic air cleaner died, it did a great job, miss hearing the occasional snap when something hit the elements.  Anyone know how to work on air cleaners?

LOUIS. URGENT. CALL INTERPOL. I'VE BEEN HELD HOSTAGE FOR

He's captured me and the torture is worse than water boarding. My eyes have been taped shut inches away form the glass EASY Washing and spin rinsing, the water shooting thru 1300 holes in the glass. It is PURE HELL to hear the bliss and be unable to see a thing.

I got through to my two FBI friends, but it was useless since they're only agents while Jet's in bed with their bosses.

PLEASE, Louis. He's never going to let me go. He just howls all night, running through his silly new steam clouds all over the house. SAVE ME, LORD. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh noooooooo. I hear him at the door. I'll never make it back into the crate. Now I'm really dead.

I'll never make it back into the crate. Now I'm real

Did you check to be sure the little ceramic penguin is facing due south?

OMG you two

settle down! Once the boiler is done the machines go back in place and I now have a new roll of digital film loaded up for pictures of the Forbidden Frigidaires!

Steam reached its pinnacle already , its efficiency can't be matched except by radiant floor heating. And My Utica boiler is so quiet you can't hear it unless you are standing beside it!

Kerrrrslappp to Mother Superior!

Slaphappy again?

Oh, that man needs a taste of his own medicine!!!

Slap

Laughing so hard, 'tis a good ting me bladder is empty

`Hoping that Annie doesn't go pounding on that.

You two could write for John Stewart.

Laughing and crying

Louis, Please turn off the slapping or we'll never see these pix.

Jon, nice matching charcoal throw on the washer--such style.

Louis

The slap is so loud, and if you forget it's there, it's quite a shock when it hits. If I continue to collude with you in public, I'll never see the pix. We'll have to send International Cables, corresponding in secret.
