OMG the tape worm also does it for me. In the year 2100 I wonder which of our 2007 ads people will look back on and say we were simply out of our minds???

do they even still make the little brown bottle? I remember that vile stuff from my childhood. Seems like a capfull in warm water killed everything. I've seen old ads that advertise it as a douch....why? I cannot think what it's like to stink so bad that the little brown bottle had to be called in. Surly folks back then were'nt that nasty.

I'd try a hardware store or janitorial supply. Near me there is a wonderful store called O'connor Hardware and they stock all kinds of unusual cleansers (the wonderful "Magic" producs with their ancient label designs; Sprayway glass cleaner with its cheerful line-drawn housewife) and commercial products. Janitorial supply houses will have even stronger stuff, although O'connor does have some pretty potent stuff designed for strictly commercial uses -which means they work better than anything you could get at the supermarket and come in economical sizes. Follow the link to see the delightful "Magic" products.

Lysol

I see it all the time at the food store in the laundry section, usually on the top shelf. In fact, just saw it today when I bought some bleach. How could I forget it?? My mother used it all the time!! It does kill everything but, YUCK!!

You really have to laugh and or gag at the cigarette commercials. Santa selling them. Oh, disgusting. I have a fondness for bearded men but NOT if they smoke.
And the commercial from the 70s. That is NOT what I include in my memories of the past.

The photoshopped ones are funny.

Thanks for the post.

Lysol

Is the implication that her cooch was soo neglected by her husband that it had developed webs? LOL I have, btw, seen that little bottle of old-school lysol everyone talks about, but cant imagine what id use it for. if i remember, its NOT a disinfectant, and it looks like it wouldnt be the best cleaner/grease cutter. maybe i should use a little in my a...

Lard

My college friend and his wife had that on their fridge - I thought it was the funniest thing. My friend is an entomologist, I'm sending him the tapeworm one.

Lysol

You can get Lysol in the brown bottle at most Walgreen's...if you want. It doesn't list the ingredients (is that legal?), but it smells like carbolic acid, which was a popular cleaner in the 19th century. It was also popular for committing suicide (by drinking).

"Classic" Lifebuoy had the same awful smell.

hmmm..Lysol's still everywhere here, usually right beside the Spic 'n Span. The brown bottle is long gone, replaced by the plastic jug and now available in lemon scent, pine and good old original. Checked the bottle under the sink, just to be absolutely sure - no mention of using it on anything but floors and walls these days...... Many sighs of relief from atriums everywhere I'm sure.

The idea that folks swallowed tapeworm eggs is beyond me-have seen this ad in a biology book. The tapeworm stays in you and you discharge its egg segments-GROSS!They can get up to 60Ft long-enough length to circle your small intestines THRICE!Pigs, cattle are common sources. And sometimes sushi can be contaiminated with fish tapeworm eggs-they can hatch and live in YOU!Good reason to COOK all meats!!!Cooking destroys the eggs.To get rid of them is a nasty process-you are given a toxin that destroys the worm(hopefully) without getting you TOO sick!Getting them out otherwise would invovle very serious intenstinal surgery.

According to the U.S. Army survial manual, eating hot peppers as a part of your regular diet renders you immune to intestinal parasites. This information came as quite the pleasant surprise to me as I've consumed hot pepper based foods in quantity since I was a small child. You can also eat cigarettes to kill intestinal parasites, no more than one-and-a-half cigarettes a day for four days. Strange world, isn't it? This brought to mind a humorous scene being played out:
"Cigarette?"
"Why yes, thank you." *Munch munch munch*

I don't know if eating peppers and cigarettes will keep you immune to parasites like tapeworms-the best prevention is to try to aviod ingesting them in the first place.Tapeworms are an interesting parasite.they feed on your
"chyme"-partially digested food coming from your stomach to your small intestine-that is where tapeworms live. They don't have digestive tracts of their own and no mouth with teeth as we have.Their "mouth" is merely an opening with hooks around it to hold fast to the intestines of the host the tapeworm is in.The tapeworm is then "sharing" your food in its own way.You chew and partially digest the food for it!That is a good reseon why people should properly COOK their food-esp if you eat meats. No raw meats!!the tapeworms bulk is primarily egg segements-to reproduce and make new tapeworms!Tapeworms also live in the acid enviornment of your digestive system-they are pretty tough. They live under conditions that are truely hostile.and they have no eyes,or ears-they don't need them.Severe tapeworm infections will cause intestinal blockage of the host-which could be fatal to the host.

Douching

I have been a sexual health nurse for over 13 years and I still hear women using Lysol, Bleach, Alum/Water. I think they got the word from their mothers and grandmother. Most of these women think it control odor and perhaps pregancy. Every man/woman should know that everyone does have genital odor and no amount of douching is going to work. In fact, genital odors works as a phemomenon. There is no medical reason for douching.....There I have said it. Yes, you can still buy the Little Brown Bottle of Lysol in my area.
