I saw an Indesit at a friends place today. It was exactly the same as what we had before getting our AEG. We got this Indesit in 1996 and it lasted for 5 years without any problems. IT used to wash clothes throughly and never used to 'bang' like the AEG on the spin. I think that the Indesit here is one of the 'better built' Indesits - not that I'm knocking the newer ones but I don't feel the lastest ones are as good.

I tool some pictures to show how manufacturers are making their machines 'bigger' within the same cabinet, i.e the portholes are now much much bigger on the latest machines - even the budget ones. The drums are also significantly bigger in size. This Indesit had a claimed wash capacity of 5kg, the AEG has a claimed capacity of 5.5kg and the drum is so much bigger, but I think this is the same drum that is in the Zanussi 6KGs at the time. Take a look at the lastest Indesits, they seem to have a wider porthole and the drum is slightly wider too, not sure on the drum depth.

My 2002 model AEG which is still in use today. Notice the supposedly 5.5kg drum and door porthole is so much bigger than the 1999 Indesit. I know its better to compare the same by the same manufacturer but I dont have an Indesit washer only a drier.

Lastly, Internals of the AEG, Owners of the Electrolux, Zanussi, Tricty Bendix machines who have opened their machines may be familier with this. The famous 'Carboran tub'.

Thanks for the pics.

I think it is easy to brush Indesit off but like you said you had very little problems with your machine. A woman at work has had an Indesit for years and it is still going strong.

I have never seen one of these machines operate but I have seen the Ariston version. One thing I did notice was the very high pitched spin. Did your machine have this?

Nice AEG. I love my Zanussi and am pleased with the Electolux products in general. Is the banging the spring foot they have?

All the best

Rob!! My dear friend...Hello.

I agree with you about indesits. Andrews auntie always had Indesits. She has had 3 in 40 years so good going indeed. Her last one was like the one above and that finally gave out last year due to bearing failure. She decided then to have a change and now has a John Lewis badged machine (Electrolux).

Both Herself and Andrews mum still have Indesit dishwashers from the early 90s without any repairs needed to them both.

Like any cheaper make I guess, Some people will have good experiences with them and some will have bad.

My sister has a Servis Caress 1000. Personally I hate the design and also the drum paddles being nearly non existent. But she has had it for years now and with 3 kids it does loads of washing. It has never gone wrong.

Hi RobM.

The noise my machine makes is of the rubber door seal 'shaking' on unbalanced spin start up or run down, I think lol The machine spins really unbalanced but is as relaibale as ever - 7 years old.

With regards to the Indesit spin, yeah the motor was REALLY high pitched on the spin, I could tell who on my road had an Indesit as the house across and the house 2 doors away had Indesits also and the machine emitted high pitched noises that we could hear outside when their kitchen window was open.
The Indesit also used to emit a high pitched whirring on the wash tumbles sometimes and distributions - the distributions used to go on for ages and the spins used to start, slow spin again, slow again and spin again and slow again etc etc. Had a weird spin squence - I used to think to myself, Just get on with it!! lol Plz watch the link below, my Indesit used to spin and sound just like this machine, same spin etc I loved that machine but it broke down after 5 years, the machine motor stopped going. The only thing I didnt like with this machine is that it used to put 'dust' on the floor from the suspension as the machine used Friction pads - A bit like car brakes.

Hi Ronhic

Yeah its identical to your machine, its the same inside just a different fascia, its a shame as even though this is a German made AEG it is't really German at all, Id say Italian made in Germany lol Not sure where the AEG's are made now though.
