I have about a half of a 17 LB box of Sears UP detergent sitting in the closet in my basement.  Cleaning stuff up a bit, odds are it's about 15 years old and was not sealed up tight.  Worth keeping around or toss? I only use my Duets any more have not used my TL in quite a while, run a rinse cycle now and then to keep it loose.

IIRC

That Sears detergent was a bit heavy on washing soda and perhaps other builders. But if the stuff hasn't caked into a solid mass, it may still be good.

Of course in my stash have powdered detergents from 1970's and 1980's, all were fine.

Only way to truly find out is to do a wash with product and see the results. You can always keep it around for washing things like rags, mops, and other laundry besides every day things. This or use it for cleaning floors, woodwork, driveway....

If keeping would suggest getting either a nice plastic canister of some sort with a tight fitting lid to keep air and moisture out. Or place box in a good bin liner that you can close tightly.

Old Laundry Detergent

I have often used old laundry detergent and found it worked well if for nothing else to wash rags at the shop etc.

I would never toss anything in the trash that still has some good use, it seems much more environmentally sound than trucking it to landfill and buying something new.

Did I mention that I am very thrifty [ cheap ] LOL

Kirkland signature laundry detergent....

Which says and I quote " Heavy duty " all I have to say about it after using 2/3rds of it is ...The tight sealing lid on the bucket is the best part. I ended up throwing it in the bin what was left and using the bucket to put a decent detergent in and never again will I bother with Kirkland/Costco crap again.... :)

Kirkland

AustIin, *most*, as in nearly all Kirkland stuff is exceptional - in many cases beating the national brands IMO.

BUT completely agree, they've missed a trick with the washing powder, it's awful stuff - industrial chemical smelling, sudsy as anything and leaves fabrics like sandpaper, and the worst part - dingy.

I don't know why it's still sold and why Costco have put their name to it, truly terrible stuff and not at all what we're accustomed to from a washing powder.

People must buy it (would like to know who) - as shipping that weight from the US won't be cheap. Even in bulk and even for Costco.

Their liquid and pod laundry detergent is excellent though.

I've had good results from the Kirkland/Costco Liquid HE detergent. I pre-dose with STPP, about 1 tbs per load, and then enough of the liquid to form a thin suds layer. With lightly soiled items like bath towels, I don't bother with the STPP. Seems to clean well enough.
