Poor plain Jane dryer.
It would be plain jane if it didn't have auto dry and had a toggle switch for air, low, and high heat and a toggle for start. This has with various auto and timed dry heats as well as auto dry capability. Far from plain jane.
In years past, a dryer with that many features would have had a far nicer control panel, probably a fluorescent light and some chrome. This was obviously a low point in appliance control panel design. It's like the whole previous laundry control panel design team was dismissed at GE and replaced with some Brutalist team who cared nothing for high style and beauty. I just could not believe how ugly they were when I walked into the appliance department at Rich's.

They tried several different styles in the 60s, gently nudging the designs until finally realizing a financially, aesthetically, practical, uniform "ideal" in the mid 70s, and then basically made the same stuff for the next 20 years.
Manufacturing efficiency was realized while maximizing profits. .... but it wasn't as much fun.
