One of these days I hope I can see one of those 37,000 btu burners start up since I have a friend who has a 1957 Lady Kenmore dryer in gas. If I really wanted to I could convert my ‘63 Whirlpool Imperial dryer to gas but finding all the parts to do the conversion would be tricky.

If I am not mistaken, the early models of these had the cycling burner, not the modulating burner so they were not as fast as the modulating burner models because, while the modulators held a steady drying temperature, the cycling burners had temperature swings while the old heavy disc thermostats had to cool down before restarting the burner.

I believe the modulating burner came out in 1959 or 1960 sometime since Kenmore started marketing their soft heat dryers in the early 1960’s. Another thing is I believe these also have the type of ignition system where it ignites a small pilot, then after 30 to 40 seconds the main burner ignites and keeps the pilot on until the timer advances to off but I can’t point that out for sure since I’ve never seen one of these older Whirlpool/Kenmore gas dryers start up and cycle on and off. Someone really needs to make a video of a Kenmore soft heat burner starting up and showing when it looks like when it begins to turn the burner down. It may sound odd requesting a video of one of these older Whirlpool/Kenmore built gas dryers but there are no videos on YouTube showing what those Whirlpool/Kenmore dryers look like in operation.
