54 Chrysler

The one in that pic doesnt have fac air,but the pic of the compressor is right on the money.Thats a standard NY,I had one of those for years, but also the NY Deluxe with the factory 4BB and dual exhaust. The later 54s and Desotos had a different power steering, coaxil more feel of the road and the complete steering column was different even the automatic shifter was very streamlined. My Imperial is a late 54.Really comfortable cars. When you wanted ac there was a derailer on the belt that would slip the belt back on the compressor,I thing alot of people put a 6volt clutch on them when the 55s came out, they were the first with an electric energized clutch for Chrysler.

my oldest car A/C is in my '81 928 Porsche-nippondenso compressor on mine, but the earliest 928s(Ca.1978-79)had the good old GM A-6.Rest of the Porsche A/C is a mix of American, german and Japanese parts.next is '82 z28;R4 compressor and cycling switch-if(when) the R4 craps,i may switch to A-6 and variable expansion valve.'89 dodge raider system is all nippondenso and I like that it has a sight glass still.

I had an '83 245 which I bought for $5 (yes, five) from a coworker. I was too scared to even try running the AC in that car since I suspected it had long been neglected.

The AC in my '90 Civic leaked after recharging and it hasn't been worth the money to fix.
