Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Twintub

Yes that is where I live. I've been taking care of this house for 7 years now. The owners and I have been friends for years. I have a studio apt, and they go to Florida for 7 months and come back in the Spring. It is beautiful here. 300ft of the road and we're on 6 acres of land. There are deer, all kinds of birds (Too many Wild Turkeys) and is very private and peaceful back here. A great place to hide Vintage Machines from the rest of the world.LOL.
The pic is view of the Back Woods from my Terrace.(In summer of course)

Thanks for the Tips John

I just got in from off Cape as I went to pick up a New Set of Belts. I'll try those first and then see what happens from there.
I recieved a phone call from RevvinKevin today and he mentioned the springs and rollers as well. Sounds like a neat trick with laying the machine on it's back. I'm going to say at this point as it did so well yesterday, It could be the belts. We'll see... Stay tuned for more.

I felt the belts this morning and they feel loose, so may as well change them Right?

The pump belt should naturally feel kinda loose when properly adjusted. Maytag specifically designed it that way. It would definitely be a good idea to replace both belts since you don't know the history of the machine.

And IIRC, they are self tensioning.

The transmission belt is self-tensioned by the two motor carriage springs. The pump belt is tensioned manually by loosening the 3 bolts that hold down the pump and shifting the pump left/right in the slotted grooves for desired tension.

Speaking of motor carriage springs and glides (rollers for the older machines), it would be a good idea to replace those too. Every Maytag I have acquired had very worn (original) rollers, weak springs, and were dry from the lack of poly lube, which caused erratic operation. The square glides superseded the rollers, but they're backwards compatible.

Thanks Dan

Got 6 Tub Lamps today at Lowes.

Went off Cape to get the belts as every Appliance store around here is "Huh ???"

Also ordered a motor for the other Dryer. I am going to test the HOH dryer before my trip to NJ.

Tub Lamp is now On !!! Love this. Eddie

Congratulations...

Glad you managed to get your fave set...and in such great nic as well...love the chrome & lights...when I was tipped off about a set over here all I could think about was "Lighted Controls" but alas it was a 206 set...But having used them and listened to the Rythmic Wash of the Maytags then thats fine...

But if anybodys gotten a spare set of control panels like yours...I`ll buy them...!!

Are all the Maytag gearboxes sealed then?? Do any toploader gearboxes have oil breathers where the oil will escape from if layed horizontally??

Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike

I'm still a Novice when it comes to the "Techy" stuff. However I'm learning more everyday. I have not noticed any "breather" device on the Maytag Trannys.
The Experts will be able to answer more questions in which I will learn more.

BTW, I put on the New Belts this morning and That did the trick. As we speak, the machine is just happily washing away.

HEY, WHERE IS REDCARPETDREW ??? I HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING AS OF LATELY FROM HIM ON THE BOARDS. IS HE OK ???

Nice machines. Wish mine were in as good of shape when I got them. Are your damper pads well lubed and springs properly adjusted? The tub looks a bit off center.

Get the agitator off if you can, either with the hot water trick or an agitamer. Then clean off splined drive shaft and stem seal, wipe down, probably replace stop ring, and lubricate the area with vaseline or poly-lube. Then replace agitator. Be careful not to damage your porcelain. Sounds easy, but it might not be.

What Kevin said...

Thanks for asking, Eddie. Really! Sorry about the disappearance. As any tech will tell you, the week leading into the Thanksgiving holiday is total hell BUT I'll rant about that in the As The Tub Turns forum as not to ruin this thread about a just fantastic find! Suffice it to say that I 'went to ground' thru the weekend to decompress...

Truly beautiful machines! I can track with the lady keeping them clean. My 72 806's were in fantastic shape and the lady had her husband open the washer so she could wipe out the inside. I LOVE machines that come from loving homes like that!

The only thing that is missing to make this thread perfect is to photograph the two of them with the consoles all lit up... (nudge, nudge... LOL!)

Hey Drew, Hey Gary

Drew, Nice to hear from you. Thought you dropped off the screen. I do understand how every appliance "Miraculously" Breaks down right before, during and after the holiday.

Hey Gary.
The Light is Lit.

I'm in New Jersey for a week now, so I won't be able to get those Night Shots Yet.

Dropped off a machine at BrianL.s today but didn't meet him yet as he was at work and had to beat that awful commuter traffic on route 80. Joisey ??? Don't miss it.

I'll post some pics next Monday when I get home with the Next Surprise.
Eddie
