Onboard Heater?

I am going to be purchasing a front load washer with prewash. I've read some of you wouldn't purchase a front load washer without an onboard heater. I was wondering if I would benefit from narrowing my search down to a washing machine that had an onboard heater.

My hot water heater is set to 140 degrees next to my washing machine. The only thing I wash in hot water are my whites and I use bleach when I do them. I wash everything else on warm, because I'm afraid of color bleeding and shrinking.

From what I've gleaned thus far in my research is the heater only comes on when using allergen/sanitary/whites cycles. It doesn't come on periodically to keep water at "warm" temperatures when using other cycles. Is this true or are there brands out there, that when you set the machine to warm, it keeps the water at 90-100ish degrees throughout the wash cycle? If so, I would definitely be interested in them, because I could see where water temps could fall when using so little water for long periods of time and "warm" cycles turning into "cool" cycles.

most have one these days. Even the low mid range models. My Samsung 4.5 cu. ft. one has it. Look for a steam cycles. My heater also kicks on if I select the hottest temp. You can tell by the increase in wash times. The steam setting limits the temp. setting to med. high. I have not had one load not be clean or fresh since we've had it in summer 0f 2019.

That really depends on machine and cycle selected.

Most US washers will probably not use the onboard heater on Normal and many even not on Heavy Duty as it appears energy ratings extend to that to but I might be mistaken.

Cycles that will certainly use a heater are any cycle claiming Extra Hot temperature or steam.

Many washers use the heater on many of the extra cycles and with certain extra options.
LG uses it on Whitest Whites for sure.
Electrolux uses it on many of the stain treatment options.
Cycles like a towels cycle might use it aswell.

I believe my LG kicks it on to boost temps on the warm temp. I've opened the door after a load to find slightly warm laundry even after 2 cold rinses.

Johnny, it's actually going to depend upon the brand of washer and cycle/option selected as to what water temps are. Warm these days is more likely to be dumbed down to 86 to 90 degrees and no 90-100. You don't wash towels in hot?

Oh yes, I did forget that I do wash my towels on hot without bleach as they are colored.

I'd stick with one of the new LG's. I retract my earlier statement about it turning the heater on during normal wash, it doesnt. the warm temp is dependent on the washer recieving a proper hot water before it begins filling, similar to dishwashers. pre-wash is cold only. I am going to start running the faucet until it turns warm before starting a cycle now.

in a Samsung does activate on NORMAL when Steam or HOT is selected. The pumped out wash water is hotter on HOT than on Steam.

OK....from everything I've seen, I would get an LG FL washer with a heater but more importantly a model that has turbo wash....

I have zero experience from LG, I just like to keep up with what's out there, how they operate...

According to Eugene (I think that's his name) he really REALLY likes LG. He takes them apart to show how easy it is and how easy they are to repair. Based on seeing how they wash from youtube videos.....and the fact that he recommends them...that's the brand I would get....

There are models with a heater but without turbo wash that are still good. Turbo wash is just so much better with the recirculation.
