I smoked my last cigarette, put them down, and have NOT been back!!

Those that knew me as a smoker still can't believe I quit, but I did!

I'm celebrating!

Congratulations Jeff

One has to be highly motivated to quit smoking,
maybe not every body. I have stopped a few times and have always been amazed that I could "not smoke" ! I hope to get back there again; it makes life so much easier.
Eat a whole cake; you deserve it!!!!

Quit Smoking!

Many Congratulations to you Jeff.
Next month will be 16 years for me.
I only do it 1 day at a time.
The thing to always remember is when life gets hard a cigarette
will not resolve the problem. Also remember that even if you have just 1 you will be right back to it.
Best Of Luck and keep up the good work.
Peter

Fantastic, Jeff! Another member of the ex-smoker's club. I've been off them for about 6 years. I was SO hooked on them I couldn't ever imagine life without cigarettes---especially at times of stress. Now I wonder why I ever did that to my lungs for all those years.

May you celebrate many more smoke-free years!

Quitting Smoking YEA!

I quit 19 years ago. When my wife said kissing me was like kissing an ash tray I knew it was time to give it up. It was no doubt the toughest thing I've ever done.

But it was worth it!

Congrats!

I quit in 1998

I had quit a number of times but always went back. This last time I wanted to quit for me and not anyone else. I have never gone back, not even a puff!

Congrats to you. Have you noticed how much better food tastes and that you can walk up a flight of steps without wheezing?

Good for you Jeff. It's sort of timely me reading this. We have both smoked since our early teens. I have managed to quit off and on. The longest time being, can you believe 4 years when we first bought this house, however my partner didn't and somehow I eventually went back. Since then I've stopped for months at a time off and on. Now since we are moving it's come up again, I don't want smoking in the new house period but I don't know if he'll be able to do it or not. He left this morning on a flight for my moms back east in order to check the real estate and get a feel for the place, hacking and coughing so much I was ready to throw him out of the car. He has an awful smokers cough some days, so does his sister, and his other sister is on oxygen from smoking. He's gonna try, my mom will not have smoking in her house, nor will either of my sisters, so hopefully he can stop but I don't hold much hope. I'll probably stop again and once I do that's gonna be it I hope. I usually don't have much trouble stopping for periods, the problem is re-starting.

Everybody at my office smokes except me. One girlie quit when she was pregnant, said she didn't miss it, but started up again after the birth. How silly is that?? My boss quit after 40+ years, it was his "trademark." When he was still running the local computer store, everybody knew if you went in there was smoke. If you took your computer in for service, it smelled like smoke when you got it back. He had no choice but to quit after the chronic health problems hit a few years ago.

One thing that amazes me is when somebody says they don't have money for lunch or tells her teenage daughter there's no money to buy groceries or whatever, but you can bet that purse has a pack or two in it. Another co-worker, her husband had to quit from chronic health problems. I thought it revealed a lot about her character when she refused to quit in support of him.

Congratulations!

I know how difficult that can be and you have accomplished an amazing feat!

Definitely go out and celebrate.

A toast to breathing freely

Good for you!! Deciding to quit and being able to make it a full year is worth celebrating.
My husband and I quit 6 years ago and to this day it is still hard being around chronic smokers. My sister smokes and sometimes I'll get a whiff of the "sweet smoke" that makes me think I could just have one. Then I remind myself of the not sweet smoke that your clothes and hair and car and skin smell like after smoking and I am alright.
I wish you much strength and continued success!!

I had a little help quitting though

Namely I was sicker than I have ever been in my life with some kind of cold/infection.
The Dr said I had pneumonia.
All I know was my throat hurt so bad I put the cigarettes down, and by the time I felt better it had been a week, so I decided to stick it out.
There were times when I felt pretty *out there* but nothing I could not handle.
The cold changed the smell for me, and still they smell funny to me.
I know I'll never do it again.
Thanks for all the good wishes, it is truly a day to celebrate!

So, Jeff-

Did you do something to celebrate? Go out to dinner? Buy a new old vacuum?

On the anniversary of Ma's quitting smoking, I either took her out to dinner, or in later years, cooked a four star meal at home. She had been a heavy, sloppy smoker for close to 50 years, so this was something to celebrate.

I am SO proud of ALL smokers who quit and STAY quit!
(Staying quit is the hard part!!)
