Check out the promo regarding this kitchen remodel. Yellow built in ovens and stovetop. Stainless steel sink with neat controls. Even had a turntable built into the wall that drops forward (a friend of mine has a stereo similar to this in her living room). Sad.

And they look like GE P7's too. We had a set of those in our last house and they were the best ovens we ever had. Only the top oven was self cleaning though.
I would have them repainted if they didn't like the yellow. I have seen a local company epoxy paint appliances so they look like new again, and the cost wasn't all that much.
I had Nate on a flight a year ago or so, he's just a little thing. But I didn't speak to him so I have no idea what kind of personality he has. Why are most people in showbiz so little?

Because the camera usually finds them more photogenic than tall ones, for some reason no one's ever been able to define. This was true in Mary Pickford's day, and it still holds today.

Nate is an interior decorator who was a nobody until Oprah discovered him and started having him on her show. Also Nate and his partner were visiting Indonesia a few years ago at Xmas time when the big tsunami hit - Nate's partner was swept away, never to be seen again. Oprah had a lot of talk about that on her show at the time.

My understanding of one of the commmandments ("Thou shalt have no other gods before me") was explained to me to mean no one is more important than any other person, living or dead and shall not be ascribed any additional worth, glory, audience or special priviledges. Doing so may be interpreted as "worship" and that can't be!

The one thing that started to irritate me was the kids letters to Nate saying how sorry they were that his"Friend"
was lost.
All through the show they kept referring to him as just his friend.
The look on Nate's face showed he was more than a "Friend"
I kept thinking, geez will someone including Nate just say, he was my partner, boyfriend, lover, the guy I was banging on holiday, something.
I guess that would have ruined his image to some people.
I think I could have mustered up the courage to say who this person really was in his life

We had those same ovens once--In green.
Hot damn that little sucker could clean itself though. It never left anything for me to have to scrub off. I'm with you, if they are still functional--paint them.

Well I watched the show and it was disheartening to see all that good stuff taken out, the dishmaster, the Nutone intercom, the record player, there was even a Nutone built in food center. Was obviously an executive 60's house. I have to say though that the new kitchen was beautifully done, not tacky like some of those HGTV re-do's. Hopefully the goods didn't go into a dumpster.
What I can't stand is people saying "If you don't like her, turn off the TV."
Fair 'nough, but you can't even get away from her at the library where the local authors and small press showcase has long since been replaced by Oprah's Book Club.

Changing out a kitchen just because you can is fine - everyone likes a change now and then - but when they call it "modernizing", that's somewhat misleading: While refrigerators have certainly become more efficient, not much has changed in oven and cooktop technolgy, unless they are going with a convection oven and induction cooktop. And unless you are planning on dumping a lot of money into them, older cabinets are generally much better constructed than newer ones.
Basically, things like this are just promotions, showcasing some company's latest kithcen products, and calling it progress, when in reality it's just change.
For once, I'd like to see a realistic updating of an everyday older kitchen: Installing a brand-new kitchen in an existing home is a money drain that many folks can't afford. And when a kitchen has "good bones" to begin with, it's just a silly waste of money.
Basically, things like this are just promotions, showcasing some company's latest kithcen products, and calling it progress, when in reality it's just change.

I do know this:
Blue for the most part is not a good kitchen color, it is a HUGE turn-off and appetite suppressant. No food is naturally blue colored for the most part.

Why all the hate? That is one crappy kitchen, I'd gut it ASAP. Looks like typical cheapy mid 60's cabinets, we had some IXLs of that vintage and there was nothing quality about them. The layout in the picture looks like it would be hell to work in, plus I don't see much counter space.
There are some things worth saving and there are things that are not, why hold on to a poorly designed kitchen with nondescript cabinets? There's nothing of value there.

That kitchen looks more battleship gray than blue to me anyway. You are right about thos e HGTV remodels. Lots of them can run upwards of $30K. Who can afford that these days.
A freind of ours had an "Early American" kitchen in a early 70's house he bought. He just took a jigsaw and cut off all the early american foo foo trim and installed Mexican tile floors and Corian countertops along with SS appliances. Looked fantastic. He sold the house several months later and recovered everybit of the $8K he put into it. BTW, there was some designer on one of those HGTV kitchen shows that saw a kitchen with Corian counter tops. He sniffed "Oh, those are just SOOOOO middle class!" Duh!
So you may not need to ripa kitchen out completely, just modify what you have.

Agreed. It appears to have have neither the quality, charm, fung-shui, classic design/proportions, ergonomics or other overwhelming redeeming social value.
However a double electric self-cleaning wall oven without electronic controls, now THAT is a keeper!

If Corian is "middle class" than I must be trailer trash! 
While our house has tile counters (original to the kitchen) I would do Formica counters and a linoleum floor if I were to remodel. They're cheap and cheerful, easy to clean, easy on dishes and glassware, easy on a cook's back, and easy to replace when you get tired of them. The place I'd splurge would be the appliances.

It's things like this that destroy the character of vintage houses.
As some of you may know I bought a 1958 rancher last September that was thoroughly vintage as of last June. Unfortunately it was flipped, now instead of the beautiful beautiful vintage bathroom (like the cookie cutter neighbor's house has), I have this crappy cheap modern green 1 foot by 1 foot tile. I think it's (explative deledted) ugly. The same tile is on the kitchen floor taking out the b/w tile, and they took out part of the cabinets to put in a standard oven (which looks bad), instead of the built in stove/oven. I still have the hole for the oven, they didn't even bother to put a cabinet door there. The countertops are cheap formica blue, instead of the 50's yellow metalic. I need to take some pics to post here. When I finally get this joint cleaned up.
At the same time, it was done half cocked, the origional windows are still here (for the most part) and majority of the cabinets. There is a late 50s kenmore stove hooked up in the garauge (the owners used to can vegitables and make jellies out there). Even found some of the origional owners china in the attic. I love the fact that these are still here.
I am very disappointed in the remodel, and when I think of all the extra money I spent to buy the house, because of this mess, and how much time and effort it will cost to turn it back, it just makes me sick. If it hadn't been in such a good neighborhood I would never have bought it to begin with.
