Well I got my order of Persil this afternoon. Delivered by Fedex only minutes ago. Currently, I have a load of white bath towels washing with 45 ml of Persil. This is the minimum dose recommended on the back of the box. Sudsing is very similar to powdered Tide HE.

I'll report on the results when the cycle has completed.

Towels Done and the Verdict

At first wash, I will say that the Persil cleans very well. Whether or not it outperforms Tide HE, I cannot commit to that as of yet. Perhaps after I complete ten loads or so, I will be able to decide one way or the other.

Malcolm, when I wash whites in my SQ FL, I fill the empty machine with hot water and let it tumble around for 3 or 4 minutes then switch it to spin to let it drain. I stop it as soon as the water is drained. Once the door unlocks, I load the items, keeping the door closed between handfulls to retain the heat. Then I restart if and the way the glass throws off heat, it is a much hotter wash. I have measured the temeprature of the wash water as it drains and it is usually within a degree or two of 140F and that's not bad for a machine with no heater after a 20 minute (give or take) wash. The suds stirred up in the wash go away much faster in my machine with Persil than with Powder TIDE HE.
 
I can get UK Persil at a British grocer nearby. They had the tabs with gel on them and came with a mesh bag...it dd a great job. My fave is the German Henkel Persil, yet is pricey. I have been using Henkels 1-2-3 that I can find at the Mexican grocer here...that stuff does very well and scent is nice. The powder is blue.

Persil is new to me, I have ordered, and will get maybe tomorrow. Is there a difference between the German and the U.K versions??

Persil and powerful scent?

Sorry, but German Persil's scent is quite light in comparison to other detergents scent. Compare it to American Gain in persil is so outranked...
 
Stan, I know everyone has sensory preferences and tolerances, but the odor dissipates rapidly in an open space. If you have a garage, store room or similar area where the stuff could sit, opened, for about a week, I don't think the odor would bother you. I kinda like it because it is not a heavy floral scent, but to each his own. I have never really noticed the fragrance of Powder Tide HE yet it drives some people away. I could not stand the stink of the liquid; it never rinsed out of the load. I still remember how Dash, Oxydol & Tide perfumed basements in my childhood and how good the clothes smelled when ironed in homes where the laundry was not given a second deep rinse.

Persil gives excellent cleaning and rinsing in FL machines. You should give it a try, if possible.
 
@mrwash: you can buy German Henkel Persil here, but at very high prices. Either through Amazon (fulfilled by an import store) or at stores that sell Miele products. Very expensive, a box that might cost 10 euros in Germany would be $40 here. I've never seen UK/Unilever Persil here, but one might find it at a British goods store. None of the merchants that sell Henkel Persil here can discount the price, otherwise if caught Henkel shuts off their supply. It's a monopoly situation. Another problem is that there is no comparable detergent that helps to keep prices down. For example, in Germany there is Ariel, which works reasonably well (just ask Klementine...)....if Ariel did not exist and the only "competition" was Weisser Riese, possibly the price of Persil would be even higher.
 
I'm gonna agree with Tom.  I use German Persil Megaperls.  The smell is somewhat sharp in the container, but once in use there is almost no smell at all.   I also don't follow the dosing instructions on the box because they are assuming the very hard water that can sometimes be found in Europe. My washer drains into a laundry sink and the wash water doesn't have the smell of the detergent.  If anything the smell is a bit acrid with no hint of perfume. After the rinses there is no scent in the clothes at all.
 
10 Euros would be about $13 - for that I never would have switched from Persil! I hate it that Miele has this monopoly arrangement for its distribution here in the US....

Think your right about the smell, but I can't stand the smell of Gain either. Somethings not right if I have to air out the boxes so that they can be tolerated. What the hell is in it?

Thought this was a kind of "earth friendly" product being that it comes from Europe?
I'm going to use it and see, but so far I'm with Hunter on this, they need to cut the scent back, or offer a unscented version.

Some people cant stand the smell of Fels Naptha, but for some reason it dosn't bother me ( sensory perception I guess)
