My wonderful husband got this for me today. It was actually his dad's and Rich's sister was putting it in a yard sale. It was only $5.00!
The box says 1985. His dad never opened it so it was never used. It may have been a gift to him that he just put away and forgot about. We don't know for sure. It works, and tomorrow morning we will find out if it makes a good cup of coffee.

I made a pot of coffee this morning and it was not good. The instruction book said to use less coffee since it uses cone filters, which I have never used. The coffee this morning was very weak. Should I just use the same amount of ground coffee I normally use in a regular coffee filter?

Sorry

Melita used that cone filter and they had a special smaller scoop. It might be that the water is not hot enough when it comes into contact with the grounds. With the manual Melitas of the 70s, the water was boiled in a teakettle so you were sure it was hot. Maybe use an instant read thermometer with just heating a batch of water in the machine to get an idea if the water is heated hot enough to actually brew good coffee. The water needs to be jut below boiling for best extraction. Put a little bit of paper towel in the bottom of the funnel to hold some water and have the thermometer arranged so you can read it or whatever works.
