so that's where it went...

I've seen liquid Oxydol in Schnucks markets in St. Louis, but on the other hand, Oxydol powder seems to be doin' a disappearin' act in St. Louis stores! Has the oxygen finally run out for the Ox?

I got a couple of bottles of the Fresh Scent Oxydol with bleach at the Rexall drug store last month. It was on sale cheap so I couldn't refuse. I've never seen it in the grocery store though.

In my opinion, it's not a very effective product, but would probably be okay for lightly soiled laundry.

I do wish P&G would have held on to the name and developed a quality liquid detergent with bleaching properties and the bracing fragrance of their original.

Oddly enough, it probably would have caught on well, considering the "Oxy" craze that followed right after they sold off the product.

I hate the bastardization of all our established brand names (Dash is another brand like this, sold off and reintroduced as a poor-quality product...)

oxydol, in the north east..

yes i bought it too in Shoprite, , new york.. nothing like old oxydol.. the liquid poured out of the bottle like water... such a great detergent in its day.. now its all about bastardizing the name..
sad, huh?

Actually, the Oxydol powder is darn good stuff. I've found it almost as effective as Tide With Bleach -- not quite, but very close. I completely guarantee, as a user of the "old" Oxydol in the 1980s, that the new stuff is better.

The liquid I use for things that aren't very dirty, but it has a light pleasant scent that doesn't linger, unlike so many others.

I never saw an Oxydol liquid in the old days so I dunno if it can be said that the new liquid is worse.

By the way, the Oxydol products are made by Procter & Gamble on a contract basis for the current owner of the brand, in which P&G retains a stake.

The Vermont Country Story carries a version of Oxydol in a replica of the original bullseye box. Dunno why there's no picture of the box on the website, since it's in the catalog.

I got a box of this a few years ago but haven't opened it. Heck, I'm not ever sure whether it's soap or detergent!

"Actually, the Oxydol powder is darn good stuff."

Bummer. The stores up here don't stock the new powder, only the liquid!

Vermont Country Store Version

Is called "Retro Oxydol", and it's supposed to smell like the original, but I think some reformulation has gone on.

I wouldn't mind an Oxydol that smelled like it used to, because my grandmother used to dote on the stuff, and for me, that is the Smell of Clean.

Re Oxydol

I found it in Big Lots the other day and thought oh boy that great smell I rember as a kid before mom changed to Dash & all
well I picked up the bottle and opened it to smell it and it was just the nastiest smelling stuff. I would not buy it!
I bought the Fab and like it a lot and does a nice job in my FL with very little sudsing.

The retro Oxydol with the bullseye is still around? Restoration Hardware was selling it about 5 years ago.

I went through a couple of boxes, and you're right, I have no idea whether it's soap or detergent. The box says it's soap, but soap generally leaves noticeable scum, which this doesn't. I would guess it's a very cheap detergent -- it isn't like the new stuff in th green box.

"The stores up here don't stock the new powder, only the liquid!"

Too bad! Several smaller grocery chains around here carry the powder, though none of the big national retailers have it. I just assumed that if you could get the liquid, you could get the powder, too.

I to have seen Oxydol here in Omaha at our Fight 4 food or better known as Food 4 Less. I wish they would bring back the orginal scent Dash I loved it and still think the white came out looking better than when washed in anything else.
