Does anyone have any experience with the ozone laundry systems that are ment for the home? Supposed to be able to wash without detergent or softner. Also supposed to keep the washer clean because it removes residues and kills bacteria.

I just ordered the EcoWasher Pro. Can't wait to give it a try. It has a 45 day return policy so I'll run it for awhile and see if actually works.

These ozone systems are intriguing, but the two systems tested by Consumer Reports scored only a 31 out of 100. Still, that's 5 points higher than Martha Stewart's detergent managed.

CR tested Pure Wash ($297) and Wash It ($397).

I'm skeptical about these systems, but have never known anyone who actually has one. Keep us posted and let us know how it works for you!

Agreed!

Just another laundry ball scam!

If it can't clean like detergent, it ain't a suitable replacement for traditional washers.
Except for office shirts and other unsoiled objects - not kitchen whites, unmentionables etc.

WEELLLLL....

ozone 'IS' an oxidizer and biocidal, used to treat most bottled waters so they can be stored without biotic growth. BUUUUTTT....

Ozone is not a surfactant. It may be able to make skin oil rancid but it can't make it suspendable in water. AAAAANNNND.....

You don't want to be inhaling it. If a machine is actually generating ozone, where does it end up?

Also seems rather costly, in the absence of even theoretical evidence that it "cleans" anything. However, there are counter intuitives in proven science, so see and tell how it does.

There is a laundromat owner in the Carolinas that has ozone water in his 'mat... He preached that it is fantastic, cleans with very little detergent, and clothes dry faster... OTOH, he said it eats up rubber parts on the washer that have long exposure to it (drain valve parts and door gaskets)...

I used to record this radio show on weekends called

the Appliance Doctor.......but I got sick of listening to it because it wast he S A M E thing every time....same questions, same answers.....but he SWEARS by this thing...The Pure Wash System.

He even mentioned he had a very difficult time convincing his wife to use it....but now that she has, she loves it.....

So I dunno.......

He sure is one that tells the TRUTH about manufacturers...He seems to have no problem telling it like it is....

Someone here will know about this better than me, but I recall that Mom's original Kenmore dryer had a black light bulb inside the drum. There was something about it that supposedly killed germs when it was on. Maybe the UV light created ozone?

In our household this feature was considered to be sort of a gimmick, and it wasn't used.

I know that ozone is used for deodorizing. My Aunt Doris worked in a clothing store that had a fire, and she said a company came in and ozoned the garments to remove the smoke odor. They didn't sell them there afterwards though; they were sent to a liquidation store called Hudson's.

UV light DOES produce ozone. That helps in killing undesirables-also the UV radiation destroys the cell structures and DNA of Virus, bacteria, and their spores. The radiation-short wave UV(Germicidal and flourescent minerals) and B (tanning) rays aren't good for you either-the long wave UV-used in flourescent posters, paint, dies, and such (Black Light) isn't harmful-but you may get a headache gazing into a blacklight for along period of time.

It Won't Work

Sorry Garrett it is unlikely that either you or I will be the ones to discover the thrill of detergent free washing, LOL.

If something like this actually worked detergent manufactures would not only be a little worried but they would also probably be selling them themselves.

I would return it before I even open the box to improve the chances of actually getting your money back.

Another thing on ozone--it eventually breaks back down to oxygen after a short time-ozone is unstable-and it takes energy to make it.At the transmitter site-if you hear arcing and smell ozone---means WORK-fixing time!!

Thanks to everyone who has responed to this post!

So, I have had this unit for about a week now and it does seem to be doing something. It is hooked up at my parents house with a Samsung FL set (Im a Maytag Neptune fan incase no one knew lol) which I dont realy care for but the washer does an ok job. The washer has had a musty almost moldy smell for a long time now. Clothes and towels usually smell gross after they have been washed and dryed. I was thinking of replacing the washer for them because it was getting out of hand. Since using the ozone system the washer has made a complete turn around. I am shocked that the washer no longer smells at all of mold. It really must kill bacteria. The directions say to do one or two washes without laundry to clean out the machine and I noticed the water in the basket after a few minutes into the cycle was murky and cloudy. I am thinking it does disolve detergent/softner residue.

The laundy comes out smelling very clean with no odors at all. After the towels are dry they do seem to feel more fluffy. I usually use Tide detergent which leaves a strong scent but if I use the ozone unit and detergent it seems to rinse out better because the scent is a lot milder. I have noticed that if I use a very small amount of detergent and the ozone, the laundry comes out SO much cleaner and fresher than with detergent alone.
