P&G again considers cheaper Tide

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Oxydol:

There are three Oxydol formulations that I am aware of currently on the market:

- Classic One-Cup formula, which I use. It is marketed as "Original Scent," but all I will say about that is that I was very familiar with the original scent, as my grandmother's choice of detergent, and the current scent ain't it. This stuff cleans quite well, and could be considered a "bargain" brand.

- Oxydol Clean 'n Fresh, in a scent called "Smells So Good." If you think P&G-style scents smell so good, you may be happy with this one. I was not. This is a concentrated powder formulation, consistent with most powders nowadays. It does clean well, but the scent is too much for me.

- Oxydol Liquid, available in various sizes down to a small dollar-store size. No discernible scent, just sort of a generic liquid detergent smell. It works well for those few darks and brights I have requiring cold-water washing.

CR Brands, a company that seems to have absorbed Redox, is the current owner or licensee of the Oxydol brand.

cascade madness!, same in italy regarding fairy!

The same here....
But now everyone's confused, puzzled...

All started  trying to emulate other detergents that started includng  "additives" functions such  as rinse aid function, starting from  salt function to the famous "all-in-one" etc so they started carrying more version than the regular,  including said additives... all okay till now...but Fairy did a different thing that actually  confused customers over here with a thing more..as expected and obvious...

The thrd confusing kind,   the platinum which called in question everything:
Now there're 3 kinds of Fairy:

Fairy classico powder caps, active caps lquid+powder  tutto in uno (all in one), Fairy Platinum supposed to avoid residues.....

Now people are like : "okay so with the classic powder caps I had to add rinse aid and eventually salt like for every regular original product, with Fairy all in one  i could forget adding salt and rinse aid, but the Platinum??? What the hell is that?"

"Well, don't ya know? the platinum, would avoid  food residues on dishes and  your dishwasher!".....at this points legitimate questions and thoughts  from consumers raised, of course:

"" Why the others version does  now???  They didn't use to leave residues on dishes in the past! So they must have changed them, now they're lower quality! That's not normal!  How come?
Since when people would seek for a detergent  that leave residues on dishes? Since when a good detergent would be considered okay if it leave residues on dishes? Why produce and sell a detergent if they know that does not work good  leaving food residues? Who would be that mad to buy a detergent that leave resiudes, and for all the money it costs?""
Finish  Pril and Svelto does not leave residues of food!

The result now, as viewable from supermarket shelves: Very few would still  buy Fairy classico or any other variation than the platinum kinda: "eh you don't know? the other variations leaves residues!"  (That's the power of commercials babe!), others just definitely switched to Finish or else they know works good, products  which are less confusing and just sensibly marketed.... kinda : "I think I will not buy Fairy anymore...they lost in trust, I feel like they speak bullshit" TRUE!
Users of platimum are getting disappointed as they realized it won't eliminate food residues from dishwasher (filters) as they meant it would do for the way it was advertised!
Substantially...a mess!
Now....without entering further in this other insanity regarding P&G dishwashing  products (what the hell is going on in there?)  matter....
This is the opposite situation...we've the original/regular  and other variations including additives ( of which anyway many people found out they  still  had to add additives because they felt that included additives were not  doing enough ) that are thought to be brought "lower quality" than the  platinum ...
they just brought up a new version claimed to better,  better cleaning... that anyway was enough to <span id="result_box" class="short_text" lang="en"><span class="hps">sparks</span> <span class="hps">many concerns</span> <span class="hps">and doubts</span></span> among consumers between others and platinum versions ...very ligitimate ones in my opinion..

Considering here Fairy is a quite new brand, came out in 2006...here  noe you've  the few people  that still buys fairy buying it  in platinum version only,  while the most just buys Finish, pril or others ...  disappointed  customers that  after  the disappointment regarding the platinum will  likely not buy anything of the Fairy Line anymore...

Substantially...looks like you can add as many additives  as you want , shine ehnancer, drying aid, glass protector etc......but when it comes to talk of  food residues left or gone  and  so  for extension  clean ability you better don't mess up with anything!
As it should be! That't still what matters mostly, the clean result...LUCKILY I SAY!
A pretty different situation than making a cheaper less effective version of a product.....  so pretty  different of  situation of the Tide example....

Bill:

I've been using Oxydol Classic One-Cup formula for something over a year, I think.

The only place I ever see it is at Family Dollar, where a 32-load box is $5. When I first saw it, I passed it up, thinking that I just didn't want to be part of this downscaling of the Oxydol brand. But then my favorite Fab, the "Spring Magic" scent, was dropped by every local retailer, and replaced with their "Ocean Breeze" formula. I never knew ocean breezes smelled so much like cheap penny candy!

Desperate for something that didn't smell like Kim Kardashian on a hot day, I tried the Oxydol, and have been happy with it ever since.

Which will be fine as long as it lasts. You know how it is these days - anything you like, the bastards kill it off.

Fab Spring Magic

Sandy -

I just got this a couple days ago, and my local grocery stocks it. They sometimes are on special two for $5. Regular price is $4.53 or something. If you'd like to make a couple boxes all yours, I'll be happy to get you one or two and send them your way.

I have not tried this yet, but it smells like the old Spring Magic outside the box...

Gordon:

Thanks, but I have so much Oxydol on hand, I'd never use the Fab. The "Spring Magic" was just the best available scent in a product with a good price point; I was never so attached to it that I couldn't bear to switch. It was just that all my local outlets wanted me to have only that horrid "Ocean Breeze" scent.

I really appreciate the offer!

Sandy - no problem, just wanted to make sure that you got it if you really wanted it. I have an unopened box of the 1-cup Oxydol too -- guess I need to get around to trying them both. I've been using a bottle of Cheer 100 oz. that I can't seem to make empty.

I agree, that 'Ocean Sneeze" scent is stanky. I really liked the Rain Forest scent, but it seems NLA. They have a new scent in a blue box/bottle now, but I can't remember what its called.

Gordon:

Like all of the current scents I have a problem with, Fab's "Ocean Breeze" seems to be a product of The Department of the Excessively Girly.

I can't even imagine a woman being fond of it unless she's the type to have fuchsia fingernails to match her fuchsia bag, shoes and car.

Sandy -

Agreed. I had two bottles of that Ocean Breeze scent a couple years ago that I got on huge sale somewhere. I put them away, a few months later time came to use one, and I had to put the cap back and say "I'll find something else". My Mom managed to get through one of them, the other I gave to a charity. Funny how personal tastes are, because I loved the liquid Spring Magic, but she wouldn't finish a bottle of that, and gave it back, saying it smelled like men's cheap after shave.

My favorite scent, bar none, is original scent Tide with Bleach powder. Its pricey in regular markets, but Ollie's here has Ace with Bleach powder (the Puerto Rican version of Tide) in a 95 load box which smells exactly the same. $9.99. I've switched back to mostly powder other than this long-lasting bottle of Cheer.

And yet with all this and the multiple variations and fragrances, P&G still will not re introduce a product with Tide's original vintage fragrance. I still maintain that we don't need bursting scent beads, three week freshness guarantees, fruit, flower and herb combinations, etc... I think P&G has done exactly what they set out to do - literally dominate the detergent market by throwing out there as many Tide branded products as possible. What's next? Tide toilet bowl cleaner? Tide dishwashing liquid to match each detergent fragrance? Tide floor cleaner? Tide scented candles to match each detergent fragrance and create a total home environment?

I called P&G some time ago to inquire (foolishly) about the possibility of reintroducing the original fragrances of Tide, Cheer or Gain. They were very polite, but basically told me to go pound sand and move into the 21st century.

Anyway, i was in Wal Mart last weekend and there were literally three aisles devoted to all manner of Tide products - and not one box of Tide with Bleach powder - HE. Go figure...

Angus:

"They were very polite, but basically told me to go pound sand and move into the 21st century."

And this is why I have not purchased a P&G product in twenty years or more. I cannot handle the heavy, mega-girly odors.

Tide floor cleaner

has actually been available for many years as part of their "Professional Line" selection. The last time I smelled it, it reminded me of the old Tide.

Lots of restaurants use it to scrub their kitchen floors.

tide

procter and gamble have a budget detergent line, it's called era, sounds to me like they are using the reputation of the tide name to market and sell a cheaper version, and another thing, wisk deep clean better or as good as tide? i do not think so, i tried it when it came out, was not happy with it, did not even remove dirt off the bottom of my white socks in hot water, so i re washed in tide and the dirt was gone, once in a while i switch to another detergent but i always go back to tide! the smell of the wisk deep clean with stain spectrum technology had a cheap smelling scent and was very strong, however i took a whiff of it about 2 weeks ago since CR tested it and it smells totally different, much lighter scent, maybe they did a reformulation already, (i think CR said they did reformulate since "new " wisk came out)

Things must be bad for Tide. I just saw a commercial with a lady talking about their clothes that they bought when the both had corporate jobs and how Tide keeps them looking like a million. The husband says maybe they can sell their clothes. The ad touted using Tide, Bounce and Downy. I guess they mean you have a choice between Bounce and Downy. At least these products are still made in the USA, I hope.

Why not just completely relabel Original Scent Tide liquid, lower the price (it has to be cheaper to make than "with Febreze" or "with Downy"), and Just call it "Tide Original"?

For the most part the latest version of Purex cleans just as well as the newest version of liquid Tide. It might not work as well on some stain, but hey there is Oxyclean, there are stain treat programs on washers and such and other stuff that has been pushed on consumers so Tide is not a requirement for clean clothes, and neither is the 10 thousand scents this stuff comes in, and the liquids certainly don't clean as well as powders yet this is what they push....use this liquid and oh by the way use this pod to help it out.

Are we this stupid? Not so much anymore. Consumers are waking up.

one thing i don't understand still to this day, is why don't they make tide mountain spring scent available in an HE version?? they have all of these new ones like febreeze, sport, with downy etc, i thought original and mountain spring were the firt two scents that started it all..... one would think that mountain spring HE version should have been the first.

Mountain spring is not a P&G brand name. Look at Febreeze. There is Febreeze car freshener so that if you have a load of 4 day old garbage in your back seat the Febreeze will make you think you are in a meadow in the middle of spring.

There is the Febreeze bed time spray that ...you know... you spray it in your bedroom before you go to bed and you sleep like a 2 month old powdered baby.

Nothing but marketing and trying to manipulate consumers for P&G's benefit.
You will never see mountain spring scent in anything unless it can be sold as a P&G brand that will make folks use the brand name instead of the product name.

Doubt this? Last week I walked into a physician's office. The nurse there said...Oh you smell so good is it Febreeze in your clothes? Nice lady but I wanted to punch her, for saying this, but replied No It's just me and then I let her sniff my arms. Actually it was Chanel for men..but you see what I am talking about. Oh you smell good it MUST be Febreze. This is nothing but P&G manipulation and they continue to do it because it works for most. But nOT for me.

If not for that belief then Clorox, Ajax & Windex would not be given the advertising publicity, mostly by word-of-mouth!

(Even when the BRAND happens to be a generic, industrial cleaner or ____(Insert REAL Name Brand Here)___...
