Hi Y'all,

The simple job of taking my P7 oven door apart to clean seems to get more and more complicated. For those of you who read my lye+aluminum thread, I tried Easy Off (lye formula) on the heat shield but was too afraid of damaging the aluminum to let it stay long enough to even up the color. No big deal, we'll only see it when cleaning the oven.

So, I put the oven door back together, and got ready to install it. The left side lost or broken its spring and is completely non functional. So, we put the door on, but it doesn't seal. I fear the next step involves pulling the whole thing out of the wall...

Advice? Owners or service manuals? (if you have those, please let Robert add them to Automatic Ephemera)

Thanks,
Sarah

GE Wall Oven Hige Problem

Hi Sarah, it may just be a spring that became unattached, you will have to pull it out of the cabinet to get to it.

Sometimes you only have to pull it out 3/4 of the way to fix the springs or hinges, so if you can support the front of it you you may not have to lift it all the way out.

Thanks and thanks

Hans, Thanks! I really wish I had been able to visit. As for these ovens, I'm kind of attached. Kelly found them for me on Craigslist in Knoxville, TN. They had never been installed.

John, How are you and your family doing? I'm hoping the spring is a simple fix. I'm thinking that I will put a few boards or something in my little red wagon (yes, I really still have one) to support the ovens when I pull them out. Only 3/4 of the way would be nice.

Is it age and imagination or is this oven a whole lot lighter than the Frigidaire I just picked up in North Carolina?

FDs are built like tanks...

our FD 30" mid 70s REG-38 range is pretty heavy. Although we also have more-or-less the same GE double wall oven as yours, but in Coppertone, and it's also heavy as heck, but it does have P-7 on both upper and lower ovens, which may add a few pounds.
