This just started today.

If I pull up a thread, it doesn't always load completely.  The ability to scroll stops before I reach the "message" field that allows me to make a post.  All I can see is the "subject drift" field.  The symbol in my browser (Firefox) sits there and clocks, and the status at the bottom reads "transferring data from www.automaticwasher.org"  I eventually give up and go back to the previous page.

This isn't happening all the time, but a lot of the time.  I noticed there's Googley/Tweety/Facial stuff at the top of the threads now, and there seems to be a connection between waiting for those icons to load and the trouble with scrolling.

Yes. I get long-to-infinite delays "waiting for googleads". If all my utilities weren't threatening to cut me off I'd pay the $12 to ditch the ads.

Note that googleads does this same thing on every site I use. Googleads is chronically oversubscribed and they don't give a flarg if that conflicts with the usability of their subscriber sites.

I'm an upgraded member

And it just happened to me again -- on this very thread.  Waiting for the facebook link to load at the top, and it never does.  I had to go back to the forum and click on this thread again, then everything loaded fine and I was able type this post.

Me too.

Must refresh the page to get the whole thread. Not a big deal and thought it was something on my machine causing it.

"The grey and blue menu band..."

Same thing happen to me at work, but not at home. I thought it was their crappy system.

Ralph and Malcolm I added those social network icons yesterday. If they are causing a delay for you I need to experiment in their placement. They cause no delay in loading on any machine I used or tested with over the course of a week.

I just pulled them out temporarily, I will rework them next week and try again. I'll let you know when they are back in and you can let me know the response time for you. With them removed is the response time better?

Eddie, I can tell by the log-in logs you are using Internet Explorer 7 (as well as 35 other members). This browser is no longer supported and you guys should upgrade to a more modern browser and issues like you describe will go away. Please see this article in the link below...

In the meantime when I go into IE7 it appears that gray bar only has issues on the main home page with the pulsating frigidiare animation. Is that where you are seeing it or are you seeing the gray bar issue on other pages as well?

UPDATE 10:11am central time - I believe I fixed the home page issue with the gray bar for Internet Explorer 7. Please let me know. But you guys that are still using IE7 really should upgrade to something newer (it is free to download the latest versions of new browsers). More and more support and is being dropped for IE7.[this post was last edited: 1/5/2013-10:15]

Robert, the thing about old browsers is that sometimes there isn't a choice per the OS that's involved.  WinNT and Win2K won't run higher than IE6.  I'm still running a WinNT system at an office location and it also can't take Firefox higher than v2.

I realize that Glenn, but as developers we have to draw the line at some point. For one thing I don't even have anything that old that I could test those old browsers on so coding for them is now an impossibility for me. Also there are only so many hours in the day and it is very challenging to keep up with all the new browsers, much less old unsupported ones. If Goggle and Microsoft are not supporting old browsers with their billions of dollars and tens of thousands of employees, there is no way for us small time developers to do it. Believe me I wish I could.

Another important thing to remember about old/outdated browsers is they have security holes that can be dangerous to use for your computer.

But, But,

I love my "Vintage" Explorer 7. LOL

Funny thing, I was just thinking about making the Big Swing over to Mac. I'm really over IE Vista, 8, then whatever is on my Laptop. If I have to learn a new system, I think it's going to be Mac. From what I hear, Mac doesn't make these enormous funky changes for a Computer Challenged Individual like myself.
Is that correct ?

So for the time being, which would be the easiest transition for now ?

Robert, Hi. The Gray Bar is just on the opening page. The gif is not affected. And the rest of the site is fine.

The gray bar? Always right where it belongs on FF2. I dislike playing musical browsers. The updates often cause more problems than they solve.

More and more sites tell me my shi(r)t's too old. Duh. So does my mirror.

Good Lord...

I know I'm getting older, but it seems like I should call this 15 year old Dishwasher I had this past summer at the restaurant and have him pick out a system that will be easy for me to understand AND have him install it !!!

He taught me how to navigate through the IPhone when I first got it.

I had installed No Script a few weeks ago and it Really caused a lag here.  It is a pain to use so I disabled it and things went back to normal.  Perhaps at some point I'll try configuring it again, but even with it set to allow all it caused a lag, but disabled it's fine.

Why, that's my favorite unsung star, well, actress, Pandora Spocks!!!! She really should have been in more things!
