Wowzer!
There are certainly some classics coming out of the woodwork at the moment.

With other people offering to take on the challenge, I will gladly stand aside and let others attempt to preserve it.
Even without an agitator it certainly deserves a secure future and I really hope that it finds one.

Would be really good to see it all cleaned up and sat alongside a Parnall TD59 Autodry.

p.s With the Parnall automatics and dryer being the basis of the Creda Laundrair toploader, yet again it seems that the preserved history of early Creda automatics is to be via another an alternative brand. Where are all the Creda's?

Keith, that makes sense now, just couldnt figure out how you could heat the water and pump it back up or Sudz Drain etc....
actually when I first saw the EW60 when I was 8 I had always imagined it to have a little square tank under the washtub to which the Sudz Save water was pumped to and from...

Hi Mike,
When I first heard and saw pictures of the machine in the late 80's I also wondered if there was a seperate tank to where the re-using water was pumped too..but later discovered there is just one big outer cyclinder/tank just like the Thor principle.
I think some of the smallest agi's are the Easiclene & Ada machines, but they only held 3/4 lbs of washing lol

Just to say I won't be going for at, as I can neither collect it or find anywhere to put it.

But despite knowing its not a plug and play machine, some one in the group should get it. I like lance would love to see the machine and it's internal workings one day, it may need a bit of restoration, but without any others in existance I know of, it's surely worth the effort.

The other thing i've been thinking about is the advertising of both the parnall and the creda versions, is how carefull they are with the words used, they make it seem automatic, but actually without claiming it is. And saying things like `it rinses as long as you wish' means that your standing by the sink turning the tap on and watching the drain hose for suds.
Yes your hands don't get wet, but you can see how a decent twin tub would have been a better option for families, with more washing done in the same time with not much extra effort.

All the best to whoever bids, and to whoever wins, get the truss ready for collection day, if the dryers are anything to go by.

I did ask the vendor about the agitator and he wasn't sure what an agitator was so I sent him a photo of one but never got a reply.

parnall spin washer MK1

Well can you believe it ! The washer of your dreams and only £20. Not sure why it was so cheap and little to know interest. Collected the washer on friday last week and had a little mess about with it that day. Did a water test on saturday and all ok and fully functioning . There is a tiny water leak on the water valve which operates the suds return but got the valve in bits today and needs 2 new O rings . It was not too bad but left a puddle on the floor during the wash. It looks as if the washer had been really well maintained , well lubricated and really easy to dismantle. It will need new hoses as most are dry and don't think they will last too long. When we moved the washer and put it on it's side there was still water in the sump of the machine which as you can imagine was not too pleasant !! Last used in 2006 .Not too sure if a visit to the paint shop is needed . The man who i bought it off thought i was a total loon when i started to explain the functions this unique machine performed !!!! Really love the machine and will post a few pictures. This is machine filling

What A Result!

Absolutely brilliant, not only for the price but it works and you have an agitator, Top Marks all the way for you, and of course being an experienced restorer it couldn't have gone to a better type of person *hands you bouquet and places the crown on your head*

AMAZING pictures!!!! As I've said before my Nan had the mkII version but I remember very little about it. I never saw it in operation and unfortunately she did not take it with her when she moved to a smaller property. Well done on saving this amazing washer.

Fantastic you were able to locate an adjitator and wonderfull you found it in working order, though it wouldn't be right not to have a few dribbles and perished hoses. Thanks for sharing the photos so soon and so glad it went to someone so able to restore it to perfection, as I know you will.

Hey Mike...I must try to get my video uploaded, but it was flimed on an old style camcorder, and not sure how to get it converted to dvd or pc file..I flimed it in 2007, so its well overdue for a showing..lol

Hi Darren, congrats on getting the machine !! it looks fab...the small leak from the diverter valve is common i think, it is a small 3 way valve and handling vast amount of water something it bound to wear over time. If the "spin to save" is holding without any leaks you are home n dry.

The agitator was a very fortunate find. Spin to save seems to be holding water at the moment. I will give the heater a go when i get the valve repaired. Will try and get a little film made when i get time.

I am absolutely delighted to see that the machine has gone to a good home where it will be appreciated. And it make complete sense to go to you if you had a suitable agitator for it.

I don't think there was any lack of interest in the machine, it was just that most of us are up to the limit in space and projects in hand. I was going to bid myself but heavy traffic kept me just too late. Anyway, better that you got it for the starting price. I look forward to seeing a video

Congratulations Darren on getting your dream washer, and the chances of anyone having the agi must mean it was meant to be...looking forward to seeing it in action.

Didnt expect to see the Sudz Return Valve pumping back at the front, so is the left hand pipe the empty pipe which you stick in for sudz return?

And is the rhs fill just for cold water?,

Keith does that go for the MK2 model? funny I always thought they where for hot and cold water intake and that the sudz return operated with a diverter valve arrangement inside.

I noticed that there was a small water leak on the water valve. I have stripped some of the machine down and the water was coming out of the spindle on the valve. Once stripped down it appears that the O rings have dried out and slack. The hoses have been removed and will try and match replacements. The old ones were ok but not totally reliable. I have done a few more photos to show folks what the machine looks like with it's clothes off !. Thanks for everyones enthusiasm towards the machine . Darren

Hi Mike, The way the MK2 works is the left hand hose socket (red) at the back of the machine is for emptying the machine only and the right hand socket is for filing, either hot or cold. There is a diverter inside, which when "Spin to save" is selected and the water is being returned to the tub the diverter blocks off the Spin to empty port and opens the port to the hose which directs suds back to the tub (the below brochure shows the reverse to what iam saying..weird)

I have to say that on my machine the water entry is at the back of the top of the tub along with the suds return entry.

Darren, its great to see the machine in the naked state, i never had the balls to take mine apart that much, but the mk2 is a bit more complex with the Selctromat controls etc..

Restoration..

Well that didnt take you long..ha ha, it looks quite solid and substantial without its cover, looks almost like a simplex spin dryer...looks difficult to get to the gearbox etc from the motor area or do you have to take the tub and everything out to get to it?

Keith, now got it, the lhs empty port is rather like the Hoovermatic 3301 twinny with the snap in hose? lets hope no one forgets to put it in!!

Darren, whats the purpose of the chrome tube on the lhs if the "Sudz Return" comes from the diverter pump and entry pipe at 7 o`clock showing at the front?

And does the diverter pipe run up the inside of the tub to the tub entry port?

Hi Mike there are two water flumes directing to the tub.The one at 1 o'clock fills the tub via the grey port at the back of the machine. The suds return at 7 o'clock is linked to the water valve . The chrome arm at 11 0'clock forms the lid switch link which i have bypassed so we can get the photos. !!!
When i get the new hoses i will take more photos to explain the process. It's all to exciting for me . I think the cabinet is going to the spray shop ...........It deserves the best treatment ......... Not thats it's my favourite machine or anything !!!. Darren

Wow! Lovely to see that spin washer!
That's the first time I've seen close-up pics of one.
It's the matching machine to my Parnall Auto Dry TD59 dryer, which dates from 1960.
I'm glad that machine has been saved. Good job I hadn't seen it listed, or I'm sure I'd have been bidding on it!
