It looks pretty! Too bad if it miss the agitator....  I would go for it immediately   considering I'dhave paying shipping to italy (350£  at max budget for shipping), no matter  also the cost of the  possible long repair labor, but if t miss the agitator, well...you will not find a spare easily though.... it looks well taken though so I don't think it would need any major repair! I'd risk..... Would be very nice to see it in action also.....
Do some of you guys have a video or a pic of how agitators in these looked like???
I think that agitators in these would maybe be similar  in not identical to the wringer Parnall machines....

Hi Mike..
I know the MK2 had a totaly different styled agi to the MK1 - on the top of the MK2 agi which i have, it has a light blue retaining disc, quite funky for the time.
The pics that i have and the machine spec indicates the agi is quite shorty & dumpy. Does your agi have a cap/nut to retain it ?

Parnall Spinwasher

This machine (or one similar) was included in the Which 1960 washing machine report which places it at 50 or so years old so I suspect that the missing agitator would be the least of the problems. But still .....

At the time they commented that under the body it was very similar to the Thor Automagic on which it was, apparently, based. And there are a couple of them still working .........

I also wonder if the agitator from a wringer washer might fit.

I agree 100% with Lance's attitude that co-operation rather than competition is the best way for us all to share our machines and collective knowledge.

Mike - I am already at the "one in/one out" stage, especially while I am "fostering" a HP 9605. So the EE Dryer is being given much thought at the moment and a certain Colston dishwasher will be making its way to the Derby Home for Old and Bewildered (and incontinent - like as not) Household Appliances soon. And the A3062 is certainly under consideration too - used it on Monday, worked like a charm

Hi Al, from what I can gather Parnall-Radiation Ltd launched this machine in 1960, and was very revolutionary for the time, but saying that it renders it useless if you haven't got the agitator ?
The principal was the same as the Thor, but the workings were somewhat different. From looking at my Spin Washer I somehow dont think the agi would fit from a wringer washer. The spline/drive cone was totally different.
Whilst I do agree with you & Lance about the attitude on bidding, this invariably goes out the window.
I think this is going to be an interesting one to watch !!

My Nan had a Parnall spin washer too, her's was a Mk2 I think as it had a rear control panel.

I do hope someone manages to save this machine.

Hi Mike,
The perforated tub was linned behind and the open holes were at the top, (if that makes and sense) lol - hence you had to "Spin to save" to get the water down the to the lower chamber to heat it up..
That agi doesn't look like a Parnall one, more like Burco, Goblin or Ada or maybe Easiclene..all these machines had dumpy agitators.

There are certainly some classics coming out of the woodwork at the moment.

With other people offering to take on the challenge, I will gladly stand aside and let others attempt to preserve it.
Even without an agitator it certainly deserves a secure future and I really hope that it finds one.

Would be really good to see it all cleaned up and sat alongside a Parnall TD59 Autodry.

p.s With the Parnall automatics and dryer being the basis of the Creda Laundrair toploader, yet again it seems that the preserved history of early Creda automatics is to be via another an alternative brand. Where are all the Creda's? :-)

Spin Washer

Keith, that makes sense now, just couldnt figure out how you could heat the water and pump it back up or Sudz Drain etc....
actually when I first saw the EW60 when I was 8 I had always imagined it to have a little square tank under the washtub to which the Sudz Save water was pumped to and from...

Paul, had forgotten about the Creda twins, yes where are those?

Hey Greg - Toy !! well really...ha ha, thats about the size in most small wringer washers and our compact bijou ranges!!

When I first heard and saw pictures of the machine in the late 80's I also wondered if there was a seperate tank to where the re-using water was pumped too..but later discovered there is just one big outer cyclinder/tank just like the Thor principle.
I think some of the smallest agi's are the Easiclene & Ada machines, but they only held 3/4 lbs of washing lol

Just to say I won't be going for at, as I can neither collect it or find anywhere to put it.

But despite knowing its not a plug and play machine, some one in the group should get it. I like lance would love to see the machine and it's internal workings one day, it may need a bit of restoration, but without any others in existance I know of, it's surely worth the effort.

The other thing i've been thinking about is the advertising of both the parnall and the creda versions, is how carefull they are with the words used, they make it seem automatic, but actually without claiming it is. And saying things like `it rinses as long as you wish' means that your standing by the sink turning the tap on and watching the drain hose for suds.
Yes your hands don't get wet, but you can see how a decent twin tub would have been a better option for families, with more washing done in the same time with not much extra effort.

All the best to whoever bids, and to whoever wins, get the truss ready for collection day, if the dryers are anything to go by.

I did ask the vendor about the agitator and he wasn't sure what an agitator was so I sent him a photo of one but never got a reply.
Whoever won it , we'll done.

parnall spin washer MK1

Well can you believe it ! The washer of your dreams and only £20. Not sure why it was so cheap and little to know interest. Collected the washer on friday last week and had a little mess about with it that day. Did a water test on saturday and all ok and fully functioning . There is a tiny water leak on the water valve which operates the suds return but got the valve in bits today and needs 2 new O rings . It was not too bad but left a puddle on the floor during the wash. It looks as if the washer had been really well maintained , well lubricated and really easy to dismantle. It will need new hoses as most are dry and don't think they will last too long. When we moved the washer and put it on it's side there was still water in the sump of the machine which as you can imagine was not too pleasant !! Last used in 2006 .Not too sure if a visit to the paint shop is needed . The man who i bought it off thought i was a total loon when i started to explain the functions this unique machine performed !!!! Really love the machine and will post a few pictures. This is machine filling
