Along with countless other similar appliances were produced during the heyday of hte post-war boom of the 1950's through 1960's (roughly) when everyone was moving to the suburbs and "entertaining".
Appetisers before dinner parties, pool parties, cocktail parties, and the rest where "finger foods" were popular. Probably tons were given to new brides or housewives to be used for preparing "things on sticks" and so forth for family events to those dinners one was supposed to give in order to push hubby's career.
More often than not the things were used once, if at all, then consigned to attics or storerooms. Hence all those NIB units that pop up on fleaPay, thrifts and estate sales.
