Passing of One of Our Own - Kelly - Mixfinder

Very sad to read of this.

I have seen several photos of Kelly's cakes on this website and they always look amazing. A lot of care and attention clearly goes in to them. I have never met him but I have certainly admired his handiwork.

My boss, a really wonderful lady and good friend, passed away very unexpectedly almost a month ago. I found her when I went to work. It was a huge shock.

I was further saddened when I read of Kelly passing away. What a sad month!

My condolances to everyone here who knew Kelly.

Today I decided to use Kelly's cookie recipe to make some chocolate chip cookies to take to work tomorrow.  Here is a haul of stuff he found while heading to Kansas in 2009.  The 4C on the far right is the mixer he sent me in 2010.  I'd never had a stand mixer before and my Kitchenaid hand mixer was wearing out after almost 20 years.

Here is the results of my labor today with said mixer and a sample of cookies on a plate.  I used white whole wheat flour.  Notice how nice the mixer coordinates with my 1984 Hotpoint slide-in range.  Thank you so much Kelly for this wonderful, beautiful gift.

Although I'm a relatively new member to the site I can tell by the phenomenal outpouring of love for Kelly that he will truly be missed. Knowing that he is now in the God's hands he no longer will have to suffer through the illness that he dealt with.
My deep sympathy and condolences go out to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Wow - God bless Kelly's friends and family during this sad time. Everyone who knew and loved him can be comforted by the fact that he has gone home to be with the Lord and is no longer in pain. The outpouring of love for him on this site speaks volumes about the kind of person that he was and the positive impact that his life made.

Kelly sure enlightened us with talent in baking. Learning of his work with Sunbeam was something really interesting to me. Knowing someone and learning of their contributions has been facinating. There is a website that exists showing and telling of the history of the Sunbeam Mixmaster Mixer. Kelly and I both made contributions to help make the site more historically correct. His knowledge of baking would have created a volume the size of a Julia Child's baking cookbook with with more detail and more pictures of the progress. I really appreciated his candor in what he liked about various stand mixer models. All homebakers could learn from him with his willingness to share how to turn out baked goods of quality. He also a great "ambassidor" repair many mixers we owned, giving away parts to all who asked. Hey will truly be missed.

I came home last night and made a 1/2 a recipe of white chocolate chip cookies for a friend of mine's belated birthday.  She shared and several called to tell me they were fantastic or wonderful.  It was another way I could honor Kelly and his family on the day he was laid to rest.  I have a Sunbeam LeChef food processor that I've had since given to me for  Christmas 30 years or so ago.  I had one working processing bowl left.  He had one extra in his collection and sent it to me.  I also got the motor base, which I really didn't need as I also have my father's unit too.  but still.  It's powerful enough for me to make bread in and that's what I've used it mainly for for all these years.  I will have to make a loaf of bread soon.  Who knows, I may post a picture of that loaf of bread too.  I hope this bowl last for a long time.  Or I'll have to invest in another near 3 quart capacity heavy duty food processor or a KA stand mixer--the 4C isn't designed to knead bread dough.

An incredible person

Like some others I never knew Kelly but what an amazing man he was and the memories he has given to others are priceless..God bless your friends and family at this sad time. Darren

I couldn't stand posting on this thread before

I was devastated at the death of one of my closet friends and supporter. Kelly was always there for me ever since we met on the old Kitchenaid forum about 10 years ago.

I followed Kelly to this site just to "be near him". Kelly took the time to visit me in Kansas not once, but twice! We called each other often. I should have known that when he became difficult to contact, he was going through a very serious ailment.

Kelly sent a Kitchenaid Classic mixer to my niece when she got married. I sent mixers home with Kelly, and he repaired them. I found the Chrome Kitchenaid model 4C mixer for him, my Chrome Kitchenaid model G mixer which he tuned up and replaced the cord, he fixed my Kitchenaid 3B mixer, and he replaced the cord on my Kitchenaid 4B mixer. I gave Kelly a Kitchenaid model G mixer for his own use. On his next trip to Kansas, he returned them to me.

This photo shows the mixers he picked up at my house. I have tears in my eyes even now -- just thinking of my Kelly. He was a lovely person. I am so happy that others knew and appreciated what a special man Kelly was.

I misspoke. I didn't give Kelly a Kitchenaid model G mixer. I gave him a 1947 Hobart N-50 mixer.

I am the one Kelly blessed with the 4C mixer. It meant a lot to me at the time he sent it to me, meant even more after his passing, and now means even more to me that I know its history and you were involved in it. Bob

I was just thinking about Kelly yesterday, and about his family as they come to grips with their first Christmas without him.

 

You know he's honored to be baking up a storm right now because it's likely a command performance.  Talk about being in heaven.

I miss him too.  He's been in my thoughts and I've wondered how his family is doing.  It's always hard the first holidays after a loss like that.
