Peoria Wash Party - July 2011

Well, here are some pictures from the Wash-In in Peoria this weekend. First off, a big thanks to Mike Haller our host. He couldn't have been more hospitible or have gathered a nicer group of folks. Since I am horrible with names, I'll let others fill in the name blanks and just supply some pictures of a great gathering in Central Illinois in July. Great weather, great comaradarie and great vintage appliances. First off Mike's incredible GE Electric sink (the best of at least 6 that he has.) Literally found new and boy, did it get a workout this weekend! This as with most of Mike's vintage dishwashers, have a plexiglass tops for easy viewing!

Dishwashers!!!  I was amazed when I viewed the line up.  I had no idea that these where all hooked up to work.  Take your pick and press a button for clean dishes.

One Last One

Out on the driveway.  A bunch of machines lined up including an early 30's ABC spinner (made right there in Peoria.)  This lineup was a show-stopper for folks walking up the street.  This is close to Bradley University in Peoria.  Let me end here with another thanks to a great host - Mike.   These happen occasionally and I would highly recommend attending at the next opportunity.  Great Midwest summer fare.  OK guys, let's post some more pictures!

Oops

Not the last one.  Had to get at least one in of the Dexter twin tub wringer (manufactured in the next state over-Iowa -what other well-known washing machine manufacturer was there???)  Great specimen.  BTW - I stayed at the local casino-hotel.  The Par-a-Dice.  Great fun.  Didn't make a killing at Blackjack, but didn't lose my shirt either.

Fred, thank you so much for sharing the fun with us!  Mike it looks like you have a fantastic collection!  I am going to start making plans now to attend next year for sure!!  You just have to love the Easy/Spin.  Great wash action, fun spin, what more can you ask for.  You can get a lot of laundry done in a hurry with one of these.  Mike, you should be very proud of your collection!!  Glad to hear you enjoyed the casino too Fred!!

I finally figured out how to operate the Cameron. Here, it is shown in Wash mode. The chamber fills with soapy water as the spray nozzle inside the lid spins the rack.

When the chamber fills to the top and begins to overflow into the sink, this is an indication that the washing is nearly complete. Open the drain to let the soapy water drain, all the while the sprays continue to spin the rack. When water runs clear, shut off the water and remove the lid to flash dry the dishes. This process uses somewhere in the 6-8 gallons range - not an efficient used of resources. Still it is an interesting novelty dishwasher that I am pleased to have in my collection.

Next came the 1946 Thor Automagic Dishwasher / Automagic Washer. Fred in a photo above showed the dishwasher and parts of it components. Here, we have switched to Washing Machine Mode, with an Overflow Rinse in progress. I was not able to do a full demonstration of the Thor in either Dishwasher or Washer mode, because, there is an apparent problem with the Spin mechanism - it will not spin fast enough to extract all of the water in Washer mode, and it will not spin fast enough in Dishwasher mode to deliver sufficient water throughout the dishwasher tub. I need a Thor expert to advise me further on this problem (left to right): Austin, Bill, Fred, Darren, Jim, and Todd.

Here I am (Mike - dishwashercrazy) standing in front of the Thor. In these photos, one can see many dishwasher and washing machine parts and components scattered throughout the whole basement. I have several machines that are in the process of being restored, or are in need of restoration. I collect vintage dishes and glassware to display in and demonstrate with the dishwashers. There are several banner, signs, and vintage ads that now cover the walls. One of my two KitchenAid Briva In-Sink Dishwashers is to my right; the other behind me. Both are now sitting in used kitchen cabinets. Quite a difference from 3 years ago when this basement was virtually empty except for the 2005 Maytag Neptune pair.

Moving to the North room in the basement mid Saturday afternoon. Jim is standing in front of a 2004 Speed Queen Washer. Darren is in front of the 1990 G.E. Filter Flo with a load running in the mini-basket. Todd is checking out the KitchenAid KD11P in the Dishwasher Wall area of the basement. In the background, Austin, Bill and Gary are looking at the bleach dispenser from the 1974 Frigidaire 1-18.

About the same as above, with Fred standing ever the 1958? Maytag P124 Washer.

I broke away for a little while Saturday afternoon to work on getting my 1969 G.E Filter Flo ready to reassemble. Here is Austin tightening down the spin tub bolts. We ran a water test, and still have a couple of small leaks, likely around the new transmission boot, which some silicone sealer will hopefully resolve. (In the late afternoon, we moved out to the Driveway and ran several of the Washing Machines displayed there - Fred has featured some of these in his photos above.)

Photo during dinner featured Darren's Mac and Cheese, Gary's Potato Salad, and I grilled burgers, hotdogs, and brats. Darren gets the Grand Prize for overseeing the dinner preparation, as well as Breakfast Saturday morning, and munchies throughout the remainder of the day. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!

Only Austin, Bill and Todd remained at about 9:30pm, when the Wash Party "Dessert" was served - it consisted of running the 1952 American Kitchens Electric Sink/Dishwasher with it's red racks including the exclusive upper Roto-Tray. It is such a treat to watch this dishwasher operate - the counterclockwise turning impeller throws the water with such force, but the real surprise is that the Roto-Tray turns clockwise from water leaving the surface of the plates.

All in all on Saturday, we ran 14 washing machines and 12 dishwasher.

Wow Fred.....I have that sink, it came with my house, only mine is on a wrought iron base, but this is giving me ideas of a base cabinet......any other pics of this sinks setups.......hardest part was the drain ports broke, and had to rig up ones from a bar sink, and the fauets with the long spout are hard to come by also, I used a laundry pull-out type.....If I am correct this sink is by Crane....
