Truth In Labeling
As you have found out, it is best to read the labels and find out what is actually in those dog foods.
In my researching and reading about dog foods, it seems to be the trend to give your dog a lower protein food than we used to. Say instead of feeding a 25-27% protein food, it's better for feed a 21-23% protein food. Articles I have read suggested that it's easier on the dogs organs such as kidneys and liver.
I have read quite a bit about the "raw" diets, but I am not quite ready to get involved with those yet.
If you find that your dog does well and does not have any health problems and will eat what you give him, then by all means continue with it.
