The fabric softener dispenser worked like agitator-mounted fabric softeners worked: the softener was added to the dispenser where it sat in a a circular chamber until the centrifugal force of the spin forced it up over the sides of the chamber where it stayed until the spin stopped and it fell into the tub of the machine. The chamber had to be circular so that the force of the agitation did not rock the softener and cause it to splash out prematurely.
This lint filter was the kind where ramps on the underside scooped up water into the perforated filter area of the pan.
