Philco w 642 b soft line washer

I have no manual for this machine.I don't understand the difference in compartments A & B. Please help! Also, the clothes softner section clogs. I've used vinegar. Any thoughts? Many thanks!

Compartments

A and B - one will be for Pre Wash detergent and the other for Main Wash detergent. A will probably be Pre Wash and B will probably be Main wash.
