Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Brad I always admierd your wringers.

And other members as well.

But the agitator in the kenmore, is

one of the designs that my aunt had in

Camden NJ.

She never stopped the agitator much.

She just will put two to three towels in the

wringer as the water would fall over the agitator made more wash drama and then a

a swoop of her hands catch another handful.

Then a load more before and empty to start a fresh fill.

The agitator design reminds me of two in one

Odd looking straght vane.

I see it as male with the long flat vanes and

the shaft slight female with soft half vaned.

And it seems it guides it to the large vanes.

As well as pulling a long sleeve shirt into the

Shaft and down it goes.

Also the high top curve vane says ATTENTION !

Love it.

This is my other faverite.

The Norge my aunt Helen had this..

only in a spreckled basket.

But that agitator will not back down to clothes

Period !

This is Keith ( Westingmans 123 )

Wringer.

So pretty, Darren, Brad & Company

Love'em all, but if I could only take one to that proverbial island for the rest of my life, it would be the Visimatic, the rarest and most coveted of childhood experience, and longest one in coming as an adult.

Notice the garden hose above

My favorite thing is modifying them to make the machines fill like automatics. Here's the Visi inlet modified from the filter option.

Here's the Maytag E2LP's installed inlet

Trying to out-shoot her automatic sister--had the valve opened too far. Love it.

For Darren, Norgeway and all Norge Lovers & Wringer People

Took this for Kelly last summer. This is the pre-burpolater, where the shooting slits were vertical on the column rather than horizontal at the top.

Beautiful thread, I'd like to contribuite as I just found lately a nice photo with a funny story behind, ie the only personal photo I have closer to a wringer washer and cannot post it, is a photo taken from the town's historical book collection, of my father helping the ladies at the church summer camp with their 2 maytag wringers in the background, they shoot that photo that day he was helping them, funny enough, I already knew the reason why he was in that picture before I asked...
It was not because he loves washers and laundry as I do, but because he got caught in something and was punished to forced works helping ladies to do laundry...LOL
How I'd have liked being punished that way too!!!!

Hi Freddie

It's the Whirlpool Automatic Surgilator with the corkscrew upper column removed, and a pretty cap to hide the lug nut.

A shot of another of my favorite machines -

doing laundry today in my 1935 Maytag model 30. I love all three of my wringer washers - I'd be hard pressed to decide which one to part with, if I had to.

Is the Maytag awkward to use with the hose in front? Does the hose fall off if you brush against it? If the hose does fall off, does water start gushing out or do you have to trip a switch first?

Thats my Visi-matic!!

Thanks for posting the Visi-matic Mickeyd! Its exactly like mine. Mine is a 1965 and had not been used when I bought it. Im with you, its a great machine. I do love the trim-ness of the Norge though.
Thanks for posting your photos everyone.

@rpms Brian - to answer your questions...

No, it's not awkward having the hose situated on the front of the machine. It is next to impossible to "knock off" as you must pull upwards on the hose to disengage the hook. In order to drain, the hose must be pressed downwards, so even if it was to get knocked loose, the natural curve of the hose prevents it from falling completely down. A very good design, actually.

That restoration

Is just awesome Brad! When I was a kid I never saw those REALLY old washers. All I saw was the square Maytag's or the round Speed Queens, Kenmore's and so on. But those 30's Maytag's were already old even when I was young. And those morphed into the next generation of white painted enamel my E2LP was based on. Maybe they were wearing their skirts a little lower. White after Memorial Day or some Nazi style rules! Styles change.

But your restoration is soooo IMPRESSIVE. The older they are the harder it is to match paint colors and so on.

Everybody's classic looks so fine here.

Kudos to Chris on his 's Maytag repaint job!
