Cool ad for the Westinghouse laundromat... that machine lived in my parents house from 1963 until 1979! One slight difference, on the left side of the control panel where the dark row of buttons are, I remember a row of pastel colored toggle switches for the program control!

I think the buttons are in the middle of the panel with those color stripes. They are labeled for fabric programs, but are really just water temperature buttons. I don't know what that dark area is. I saw one like you describe with wide tilt-tablet sort of keys that were pressed to choose the water temperature selections.

Love that old ad! My mom had dark hair like that and it was styled like that also. That was a fun time period!
