I never understood this ad. Back in those days, the only top loading washers that had a second rinse were the top of the line. All front loaders had 3 or more rinses.I know the Westinghouse and Bendix front loaders had three including a "free rinse"which was a 2 minute spray of fresh cold water spraying on the clothes during the pump out of the wash water. They would then go into a 2 minute spin before the final 2 rinses. The combos did the same. So,this ad does apply to front loaders more than it does top loaders. Why then are they using a Philco/Bendix top loading washer to advertise Dash?

Chuck, Back in 1963 when my parents bought their first automatic washer, a Kenmore Model 70 top loader, it was recommended to use a low sudsing detergent. I think a sample of dash was in the machine. These machines were notorius for suds lock. So we ALWAYS used Dash, All, or AD. We always used TIde in our GE Wringer. At times, we did use Tide in the Kenmore, but had to be careful of the suds lock. I always liked Tide, Silver Dust, Breeze, but I like the clothes rinsed well, so we used low sudsing. My wife and I had a Westinghouse front loader in 1984, and Dash and the low sudsers were not around or hard to find. The Westinghouse LT800E would also go into a suds lock if too much detergent was used. Sure wish the "HE" detergents were around then.

I really like the HE detergents now. I think if I had a top loader I would use them.

Suds Lock

What actually is suds lock? I use tide and a small scoop of oxy clean with the tide,it seems to cut the suds during the wash cycle.I use a 1955 Kenmore for my everyday machine. Thanks Bobby

Suds Lock

Suds lock is when there is an excessive amount of suds in the machine when it goes into spin after the wash cycle, and the machine has a hard time pumping it out so the suds/water just keep swirling around. Now with the Model 70 Kenmore, the suds came up the bleach dispenser and then onto the floor. All of these suds have no significant means for cleaning. It just builds up in the laundry.

Have never had this with the GE Americana. It seems when the machine starts to spin and drain all at once, this problem never occurred.

Perhaps they are meaning "IF" your machine had a second rinse (or 2nd rinse option) that it wasn't necessary with Dash as the clothes are already as clean and as pure as they can be. Of course, this depends a lot on the machine and it's ability to actually remove the detergent residue.

My 53 Bendix has a 45 second "Assured Rinse" after the wash, 45 second intermediate and 45 second high-speed spin before the first rinse. Then it repeats the spinning process (45 low + 45 high speed) before the final rinse. My 49 Westinghouse mimics this somewhat but there is no "low" speed and no spin between the two deep rinses. I wish the spray rinse was two minutes long! The Westy top-loading washers had a very long spray rinse which they termed 1st rinse but it was approximately two minutes long!
