While I was taking off panels to check out the duct work in my Speed Queen dryer, I went ahead and removed the outer panel from the washer. Just had to check out that all metal outer wash basket. Nice, looks like a 55 gallon drum!

Oh, but what do we have here? I had noticed that on heavy loads, the washer is designed to lean to the front, and then to the left on really heavy loads. I see that there is a simple styrofoam piece here that the spring bumps against (to reduce clanking noise). I don't understand the tilting reason, but it seems to work to move extra heavy load around. My Speed Queen's tub seems to move around a lot more than ones just a few years ago.

I like the basic and clean design....looks real easy to work on if needed.....

most of my machines like this, I wrap with foam, one for noise and banging, and two, to keep the heat in when washing in hot water, like a hot water heater jacket

Dan:
What beautiful machines. Does your washer have the Speed Queen emblem on the front panel? I wonder if these are available if not?
Bobby in Boston

Mine does have a SQ emblem (it's my profile pic), but only because I bought one and stuck it on there. When the redesign occurred for the control panel, the "Q" crown was moved to the control panel and off the front. I like it on the control panel, but also wanted to carry on tradition and have one on the front. I looked at a repair manual and got the stock number for the Q and had my SQ dealer order it for me...or you can get them from one of the online parts places as well. If you would like, I'll get the part number for you.

Sorry to spoil the mood, but there is nothing easy about servicing this design. Just changing the belt involves removing the motor from the tub, then removing the pump from the motor. I sure hope they improved the tub seal, brake pads, and belt.

NO THEY ARE NOT RELATED TO THE OLD AMANAS

As discussed in many posts these machines according to the VP of Sales at Speed Queen, have been redesigned whatever problems this design may have had in the past have been addressed by Speed Queen who split from Raytheon Corp. after their sale to then Maytag Corp. These machines are built by Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon Wisc.
WARRANTY......PAY ATTENTION NOW,
3 YEARS PARTS AND LABOR ON THE ENTIRE UNIT
5 YEARS ON THE TRANSMISSION
10 YEARS ON THE MOTOR
LIFETIME ON THE OUTER PORCELAIN ON STEEL WASHTUB AND STAINLESS STEEL WASH BASKET.....
SO NO, EVEN THOUGH THEY LOOK LIKE THE RAYTHEON BUILT AMANAS, THEY ARE AND I REPEAT NOT RELATED BY ANY MEANS.
SORRY FOR THE RANT, CL&P JUST SHUT OFF MY GAS, EVEN THOUGH I RECENTLY MADE A PAYMENT AGREEMENT WITH THEM.
MIKE

SQ not related to Amanas - Excellent!

Glad to hear they are their own design now!

Good luck with your utility company Mike - they can certainly be frustrating!

So are you like saying

SQ is not related to the Amanas? (Giggle)

I was actually going to say the front view looks like a Maytag, but now I guess I had better not.

"CL&P JUST SHUT OFF MY GAS"
Don't you have a cold weather rule in your area? In Kansas they can't shut you off from Nov - April.

The Alliance part number for the Speed Queen "Q" is 201495. The description will state "Sticker", which it kinda is...it's allum with a sticky adhesive. Enjoy!

Sorry about the rant, CL&P is divided into two companies, one for gas Yankee Gas and one for electric CL&P. both fall under the umbrella of Northeast Utilities. I recieved a letter from NE utilites about by bill, which I know was past due because I lost my job, and I entered into a payment agreement with them. Never did I think though that my gas would be shut off. Anyway I paid the bill today, and they will be coming out tomorrow to restore the gas. I feel like an idiot. I am again sorry for my rant, but it did feel good hitting the keys on the computer pretty hard. LOL PS.....Don't sat anything bad about my Speed Queens LOL, and I did find another job. You guys are great.
Thanks, Mike

belts, relations....

It a long drawn out thing and unless you really know all the how's, whys and wherefores you simply won't understand. This SQ is NOT the Amana that was produced when MAYTAG bought them. It has been redesigned and improved.

In fact I think I went into great detail over the split in past posts.

NO, you do not have to remove the motor to change the belt on this machine. The pump unclips. Just one of the many improvements.

Glad to hear you got a new job Mike (didn't know you had lost the previous one). It's rough out there for so many. Rant anytime...everyone deserves a good one every now and then. :)

Hey Dan,
The store went out of business last month due to low sales, but thankfully after about four weeks I found another job locally, so I am grateful for that. I now work for Macy's
