Coffee People

Portland is all about coffee. In fact, last I heard we’d finally eclipsed Seattle as the most coffee-obsessed city in North America. I don’t care for coffee, and coupled with my aversion to salmon it makes it dangerous to live here. Telling locals you don’t like coffee and salmon is like saying you like to burn flags and kick puppies. They go all Little Edie on you and tell you it’s the most disgusting and atrocious thing ever to happen in America. Oh, the drama.

Coffee People used to be the coffee lover’s place of choice, but now the local favorite is Stumptown. Apparently it’s where to go for the best cup. Not that I’ll be doing that any time soon.

I forgot something...

Chad, a few suggestions. I'm not sure of your plans while you're here, but if you want to get some great views of the city then head up to the City Grill, which is on the 30th floor of the US Bank tower. One can eat fairly inexpensively in the bar, and the views are fantastic. Also, ride the tram that goes between the South Waterfront and OHSU. Again, some terrific views, and it's only about $4 (and free on Saturdays in February).

The president you mentioned must be Lincoln. Did you notice our state capital building? Affectionately known locally as "The Penis of the Plains." I can certainly relate to your driving across the barren plains of Nebraska. Unfortunately, you have to cross the plains no matter which way you come home, Western South Dakota is beautiful but run the risk of inclement weather going that route. The good news is, no matter which way you go, there are plenty more truck-stops along the way and you might make some new friends. That would be an interesting location for the forum... Lot Lizard in _______!

Gansky.....

When he mentioned your name, Iowa, and neighboring town named after a president....I was trying to recall a president named Council Bluffs. LOL
