Does anyone here know anything about an early to mid seventies Kenmore with a plastic outer tub? I had a customer with this machine some time ago. I repaired it several times but now it's long gone. I'd guess by my memory of the control panel that it's a mid line model. I can't remember the exact agitator except that it was gold. The machine was coppertone. In 20 years I've never seen another.

BTW all you belt drive collectors (some real nice ones have popped up here recently), I wonder how much longer Whirlpool plans to make these parts. I only say this because my parts distributor claims that Whirlpool no longer makes the 3-port pump. The one for later model non-self clean filter models. I still run into these quite often so I don't understand. I've asked several times since January but all they can get in genuine is the 2 & 4 port. 3-port only available from Supco. Makes me want to stock up. Ed

Interesting...I *think* my 1982 Kenmore has a plastic outer tub. Will have to double-check though. My '68 sure doesn't...LOL!

The gold agitator could have either been a Kenmore straight-vane, Super Roto-Swirl, or Penta-Vane. I've seen all three of those in gold, but there could quite possibly be more types of gold agitators as well.

Yes, Whirlpool experimented with plastic outer tubs for only a very short time in the early 70's I think. John Lefever has one in Maryland - very rare! Apparently, Whirlpool decided at that time that the technology wasn't advanced enough and the cost was too high to implement the plastic tubs into regular production.
