I am interested to know what the origin of this machine is or was. I wonder who manufactered this washer and dryer. Odd that it would have a fiberglass tub like the Apex and the inside drum of the dryer looks somewhat like the old Kenmore dryers.

The control panel looks like an Apex but the tub and agitator remind me of a Thor. Did you notice it rinses with hot water?

Pre-Beam Marquette

Apex made for several brands, Wardaway (Mont. Wards), Zenith, Universal, etc. They had an agitator version as well but still used the Fiberglas spin tub with the pockets that held water for balancing. Have never seen ads for a bouncing basket washer other than for Universal. After Apex closed it's doors in 57-58, Marquette turned to Beam (Franklin) for it's laundry appliances, touting the fluid drive and other Beam features.

Interesting that Apex closed in 57-58...  Not to hijack the thread but in my search for information about the Beatty/Dominion washers, I noticed that for the 1958 model year there were parts lists for Dominion/Zenith washers.  Can't help but wonder if Zenith partnered up with a, gasp, Canadian firm instead of the other way around...

Very interesting, I had no idea that Apex had an agitator model. So, apex quit making machines in 58? I guess I was lucky to have even seen one before. That junkyard I used to pick up machines at had one like Robert's, but that is the only one I have EVER seen anywhere.

And howe often do you see knobs on the SIDES of a washer's (dryer's, too?)control panel?
