POD 12-31 Westy/Easy

Has anyone ever seen one of these Easy-made Westy top loaders? This has to be one of the rarest washing machines. I think they were only made for a year or so. This Tide ad doesn't even have a real photo of the machine, just a drawing. I wonder if it was distributed on a limited, regional basis.

I also wonder if there was a matching dryer? The control panel is nothing like the front-loading "Laundromat" twins of the same vintage, which would have been the last slant front models.

I did see this washer in person in a membership only store in the industrial part of San Francisco. The washer had the Easy spiralator agitator and solid tub.

Was there any story behind this washer? Clearly, the market had moved away from the front loading Westy design...was this more than just a stopgap measure before launching the "weigh-to-save"-type Westy TL washer? Why did they bother...was there some strike or something which delayed things?
