This POD hs me wondering what machines the winners of this contest chose. I'm also curious to know if any of your mothers, grandmothers, or yourselves for that matter have used Tide for any of the suggested uses listed such as washing dishes, floors, bathroom tile etc.

My mom never used Tide. I remember, as a young boy, shopping with her in the supermarket and I asked her to buy a box of Tide. The bright orange bulls-eye box was too much for a kid like me to resist.

"No," she told me. "That detergent is too harsh and it's not good for your skin."

So, she picked up a box of either All or Cheer - her favorites.

Forty years later, I have never used Tide. I guess it shows you how we are influenced as children.

Tide for floors

When I was a kid, my grandfather in MS used Tide to wash dishes, floors, vehicles, etc. in addition to fabrics.

Today, a version of Tide powder is sold for all-purpose use; it's popular in food service establishments for cleaning tile floors and greasy equipment. I believe it comes in 18 & 36 lb. boxes.

We used Tide or Cheer

In the dishwashing sinks at the resturant. It would cut the grease, hold a lot of gunk in suspension, and was inexpensive. This was, of course, in the Carter administration and before DAWN. I have noticed that many resturants that still hand wash used Dawn liquid now.

yes I have

In my youth I worked in a diner; we used Tide to wash dishes, glasses, silverware and pots/pans. Also we'd fill a soup bowl with tide and sprinkle it on the floors, dip a deck brush in a bucket of hot water and scrub away. It did an awsome job of cleaning, only problem was if you did'nt wear gloves esp. while dish washing tide petty much ate the skin off your hands...Kevin's mommy was correct in telling him it was harsh.

Tide, Harsh?

In my earliest employment at Jack in the Box, we used Tide to scrub the oil stains off the concrete slabs in the drive-thru. I must say it worked better the muriatic (sp?) acid the company recommended. Ate the hell out of my work Nikes, though.
