The A106 and DE306 was the entry level Maytag set, and the A206 and DE306 was another model up from the A106 set. The A106 isn’t a bad washer, but I’d choose a Maytag A206 since it offers 2 speeds, and the gentle speed is good for delicate fabrics, and permanent press/wash n wear fabrics

My mother had to have had a later version of that A106, and just so she'd get a Maytag...

As for me, I, too, would have liked a slower speed, too, but she didn't, and to me, the A 206 is preferable in that it's offered in colors like every dryer, even the DE/G 106 mate, but Mom voluntarily took to white, regardless, parting with her Avocado Bradford laundry set, hence replacing it with the trademark-dependability and trouble-free...

Did any of you notice that the agitator was not a Powerfin, but a standard Maytag high fin lint filter agitator? That means that the entry level 106 did not have the same washing action as the washers with the Powerfin agitator so the agitation was a few strokes per minute slower.  I tried running a high fin in my 806 even before the 50 cycle kit upgrade and the high fin at that agitation speed was a total failure; it just tangled stuff.

Tomturbomatic, I believe the older style of Maytag agitators provided a little more aggressive wash action, and if it moved faster than they were intended to, it probably would tangle stuff up since they were only designed to have the original motor pulley and not the 50 cycle pulley

Tomturbomatic I will say my A606 washes just fine, and I am just using the Maytag DE306 HOH dryer to dry clothes from the A606, and the DE306 seems to dry just fine. The DE306 drying time is average, and drys pretty good if you don’t overload the dryer, and dryer sheets seem to work better for some reason in the DE306 than my newer DG810 dryer, and towels seem to be a little more fluffy when I dryer them in my DE306 HOH dryer
