Just curious if anyone is familiar with the operation of this machine... I've heard the name but never seen one live in person.

I'm especially curious about the "Velvabalance" feature. Slowing the spin speed when unbalanced isn't especially unique, but what did this machine do to redistribute the load itself without shutting off??

Inquiring minds what to know, and I'm hoping there is someone around that may have grown up with one of these.

Thanks!

It did the same thing that speed queen, GE and multiple others did and spun at a much slower speed and/or hit the outside tub if it was grossly unbalanced.

I have never seen one either-IIRC,westinghouse stuck their badge on these before they introduced a TL of their own design~1966.Looks like a westy motor in the POD cutaway. These easys were made down in Mexico for many years after US production ceased :)

Frigidaire advertised being able to handle OOB loads during spin in the beltless drive Jet Action washers. When CU tested the first of these, they notice a burning smell with severely unbalanced loads. Maybe it was the composite driving wheels getting poor traction and overheating, like a car's tires spinning on pavement giving rise to the term "burning rubber."
