I'm new to forums, so hope I don't say or do something here that isn't allowed!
Basically, I have a red washer, dryer, range, and refrigertor, all functioning, in a rental house. The age of these appliances makes me nervous and if there is someone out there who would like this nice matched set of 4, make me an offer. They are in "like new" condition visually, and they are all in use. I am located in northern Michigan. Thanks.

I know, I don't care much. I already have a Corning cooktop and I don't use it... And I probably wouldn't use a range like that either (and they're not even ok to use in Canada...). But I still want one!

Paul & Phil...

Ya!! If it's a lower model(not a smooth-top) range that you're not interested in Phil, and in excellent shape, then I am!! especially if it's an Electri-Clean!!!... could you fit it in with your fridge, if you get it??? I'll be in VT next week for the last time this year, Sunday 14 to Sunday 21. Let me know what you find out!!

Touch and Cook

I had a Frigidaire Touch and Cook range with a Corning top. I learned several key issues about cleaning and then we became fast friends.
1. Regardless, always wash the stove top with a clean cloth without any soap residue and rub the cooktop dry before ever turning it on. Cooking spray, flying grease, using the stove top as a counter, house dust, crumbs etc all burned on if not wiped away first.
2. Make sure pans are totally flat bottom. Dont drag the pan around or shake it which spreads grease and marks the top.
3. Always use a pan twice the size you need and avoid all boilovers, something I still do saving hours of clean up from spills and boil overs.
4. Clean the range thoroughly after use with a Corning top approved cleaner, buffing the polish without rinsing it off.
5. Set the heat switch were you ultimately want to end up cooking as the cool down took forever if you went to high to start cooking and then turned down the heat.
In lots of ways a Corning Top was more like cooking on an old wood stove for even ness, speed and heat transfer. If I was in a rush I started two burners, one on high and one on simmer. When the contents of the pan were up to speed I switched burners and kept right on at a simmer or boil.

Thanks for the advice Kelly!
If I ever find a Corning top Frigidaire range or it I decide to use my Gurney cooktop, I'll try that!

Can't say that I'd ever want one but...

My Uncle and his Partner bought a Corning Smooth-top 30" stove in the late 70's and to this day, it still works. It is a GM Frigidaire electric oven with a Corning ceramic-top stove that they bought the first year Corning offered two versions: one that, like the first Corning cooktops, only worked with perfectly flat bottomed Corningware, specially made for cooking. Their new version  worked with ordinary cookware with flat bottoms (yes, I see all the jokes). I was surprised at the time that Dick chose this stove, because he was an extraordinary cook; he told me that he didn't want gas tanks anywhere near the house and, like James Beard, made electric stoves do extraordinary things. And he did. For many years their friends would show up at the house with a brand new pot or pan specially designed for Corning stoves, so they had all the compatible cookware they'd ever need. The stove was a masterpiece in many ways. It was a beautifully simple design with none of the flourishes of badly designed appliances. It even had knobs that were more like high-tech stereo knobs on the control panel for the burners and the thermostats. The oven was huge and fast. The burners could cause a lot of stains and mess, but the overall effect of the stove was so clean and perfect, you hardly noticed. Ironically, the burners they used the most were an ancient 2-burner L&H cooktop with thick coils that they salvaged from the original kitchen and installed right next to the Corning Stove. So as fast as those smooth burners were, they weren't fast enough for morning coffee and the occasional soft-boiled egg.

Yes, in Canada, separate circuits are required for the oven, and for pairs of burners. Here's a US-made Frigidaire range from the late seventies that was sold in Canada. Even those from the 1940's have these fuses.
