GE calls it "Smart Dispense", Miele "Liquid Wash", Siemens "i-Dos" and now Whirlpool seems to be offering a device to add liquid detergent automatically on their forthcoming washers. It's an insert that fits into the dispenser. Seems like they also reduced the number of holes in the drum - like everyone else.

Rant from the UK

More rubbish to turn the user into an unthinking idiot who is then totally reliant on the machine to do any thinking for them.

sad state of affairs it is very sad

Tub Holes

It looks like the tub holes might be spaced further apart and have definitely gotten smaller in size.

Interesting.

Ineresting = Costcutting

My guess is they are using a thinner gauge metal for the drum, i have seen this on budget machines, wherebye you can grip the front of the drum and flex it.

Ah well lots of cheap technology and cheap build qaulity......hey ho here we go :-)

I looked at a GE with Smart Dispense last year when I was looking for a new machine. The guy at Sear's said "You don't want that." Besides the $600 the drawer adds to the cost, the stupid thing clogs up and quits working every few months.

The drum reminds me of the drum on a neptune - a more matte finish and flat.

Based on the shape of the paddle, it seems that the drum will not be tilted on the new models.[this post was last edited: 8/20/2010-13:37]
