Preferred Laundry Detergent.

After almost a year of going through the army sized box of laundry detergent that you get from Sam's Club (bought for me without consultation by a loving heart), I am at last down to a week's worth of the stuff, which means I need a replacement soon.

I don't want to start the new year with a war, but I was hoping that some of the members with a strong opinion would suggest one or two brands of their preferred detergent, and the name of one (or two) that have proven to be disappointments.

If possible, I'd prefer a powdered brand, little to no fragrance and one that doesn't cause skin problems. Laundry is usually done in a top loader (Maytag A207).

A&H is my daily driver

however I have been known to experiment with off the wall brands. Foca was one that was a disaster and the liquid Oxydol was a joke too.

You are a perfect candidate for Sears Ultra Plus detergent. I bought the 180 load box and it lasted me just about a year. Very light fragrance and it cleans well. Very little sudsing too. There are a few different kinds as well. Excellent pricing when it is on sale...which seems like all the time.

I've been using Cheer powder for several months now and I really like that too. Scent is stronger than the Sears but it's just about gone after coming out of the dryer. It suds up a lot too so you have to play with the dosing. I don't use what's recommended on the box. I'd have a suds emergency hahaha

I think you'd be happy with either.

It's been along time since I've had a detergent disaster lol. Probably Sun or Xtra.

This is my sister's daily driver and she swears by it. It cleans well and is one of the few detergents that doesn't cause skin problems for her detergent-sensitive husband.

I wasn't happy with Sears detergent the one time I bought it- Yes, it probably removed stains, but it left the clothes very hard, scratchy, and rough, and didn't dissolve at all in cold water, only marginally in warm. It left streaks on dark clothes, some that never came out completely. IMHO there are far better detergents out there. I used Purex Baby for a while, and while it may not be the best detergent on tough stains, it leaves clothes soft and fresh with a very nice clean, neutral scent. Maybe tale a look at Persil Sensitive liquid? I haven't used that particular one, but the other versions are excellent at cleaning.

I use anything powdered. I pre dissolve it in hot water, then add to machine.
You could try All Free n Clear powdered..Its un scented, but dose contain OBs (some sensitive skin types don't do well with OBs)

I've been using Tide HE Turbo (Original Scent) powder for almost a year now. I absolutely love it. It worked well in the disastrous old WhirlTurd Direct Drive and works like a million bucks in the classic Maytag. I also use Persil Pro-Clean liquid for heavier loads such as towels or jeans. It also works wonderfully.

For no scent I have to go with Tide Free & Gentle powder.

I personally like a classic scent, on the easily noticeable side but not incredibly strong that it burns ones nose. The old Tide Original Powder fit that bill. Sadly while they made the old Original liquid the new Mountain Spring, they never did the same for the powder variant, and the liquid scent makes me wanna hurl after awhile of use. Gain Original Powder or liquid has a nice strong scent but never got tiring to me, not once.

I mentioned in the other detergent thread about using Ariel on my sheets and I woke up and wasn't tired of it, I barely notice it now. It has the same characteristic as Gain Original and the old Tide Original Powder in that it doesn't fatigue my senses over time but remains somewhat strong.

The new Tide Original Powder has a scent I don't like alot but its mild enough and fades away fast enough after coming out of the dryer that I think it's actually pleasant. If it were any stronger I would probably wanna hurl.

I used Persil on my clothes the first time the other day, it was nice at first but by the next day I had grown fatigued and therefore sick of it.

That's my noses 2 cents.

The Arm and Hammer is a great powder that dissolves easily, very light fragrance, low sudsing in my front loader. Works well in my top loader too. I just finished a box. Always priced right.

I decided to go with Arm & Hammer as a trial. I've run a number of loads and been happy with the results so far. The smell is fresh but not obnoxious and seems to do a good job as a cleaning agent.

Gus, what persil did you have issue with?

We usually use the Megaperls (universal or senstive for whites, towels and bed linens and the color formula for colors). Scent isn't overpowering usually - and both my partner and I hate strong scents on laundry. However, we got a box of the Universal Powder and my partner seems to think it leaves a much stronger scent on the clothes than it did before. I am wondering if they changed the formula over the years.

I use Cheer Color Guard powder, without the optical brightners. I does well, the scent is clean and fresh but not overpowering. I buy it at Target. I'm very pleased so far.

I've used Persil Universal Powder for the last 5 years.

But as of lately I really like Rosalie's. Rinses extremely well and barely a trace of scent.

Tide with Bleach alternative for whites and light colors and Gain with Biz added for everything else.
