Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay, as you can imagine I'm busy sorting the old queen out haha!

I've managed to take the front shell off to gain better access to the tub front and sump hose. Yesterday I tackled the main issue with my machine which is the small leak coming from the tub gasket. I removed the tub front and found a little bit of corrosion around the rim which is to be expected so I treated that first. I also washed the gasket and soaked it in Son of a Gun before fitting it with a bead of sealant. Then I applied another bead of sealant and fitted the tub front which appears to have seated correctly but I need to rotate the cast iron weight clockwise ever so slightly. I will test for leaks tomorrow so fingers crossed! Then I just have to clean off any excess and smears.

@Ian
I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble with yours. I am very lucky to have an intact door seal on mine but only time will tell how long it lasts for. I have washed it and soaked it in Son of a Gun so hopefully that will extend its life for the foreseeable.

@Everyone else
Thanks for all your lovely messages! Your 3226 is a stunner Keith BTW!

Hey James

Glad you are getting stuck into this. Looks great. I've never seen one working in the flesh before and I can't remember anyone having one of these when I was growing up. It's great that machines like this still surface and even better that you've picked one up on home turf.

Good luck with the restore

Steve

My Keymatic is now completely restored and in full working order! Things easily could have been so much different with this machine and I could have ended up with an expensive piece of furniture but I was lucky in that only the tub gasket, sump hose and drive assembly needed attention.

I still have a bit more polishing to do and then I need to find a good spot in the wooden house for it to reside. I can't wait to record a few videos of it doing it's stuff, the wash action is something else! When so many manufacturers are bringing out machines with all these silly jets and 6-motion stuff, I'd say this machine would beat them hands down. When tumbling the machine swirls the water in a circular motion and when the pulsator is activated the water is driven in sort of figure of 8.

It's a quiet runner too, the gurgling from the pump is actually louder than the machine spinning itself. That large 4-pole motor does it's job without any hesitation and all that can be heard whilst washing is the quiet whirring of the rollers and the clutch.

So, here it is lurking in the wooden house.

FINALLY....

I get round to publicly offering my congratulations on a wonderful find, James!

All the years of patience and posting your wanted adverts has really paid off this time. Its great that you have joined the Slant Front Club - I still await my qualifying machine, but would love a 3226 timedial!

Your machine is in lovely condition and, obviously in a very short space of time, you have worked your magic and have a runner already! The machine gleams and, as with your Conquest restoration, is a credit to your skills.

Well done James!

Paul
