As my 12 1/2 year old Maytag ages, I've always felt fortunate that it always works perfectly considering I do a lot of laundry. Finally after a short trip to my mailbox I opened the door to hear it making a squealing noise like a pig stuck in a fence. I was happy to discover it was just a tired poly pump. I think this is pretty good service for this machine. When I removed the front I was suprised to find it was so clean inside, suprised too to see that it looked so similar to the machines I repaired for resale as a teenager. Most of those older Maytags just needed a new pump too...leaking was the main problem for the old metal pumps.
I really like having the front off the washer. It reminds me of good times when I was young...is that weird or what? From a distance, the outer tubs even look the same although the old ones were porcelain on steel and mine is plastic.
