Quick post -

Yesterday was the local 1 dollar clean up day. Bring your pick-up's, trailers, and SUV's filled to the brim with garbage and the city would dispose of it for you. How much? 1 dollar. Appliances were an extra dollar apiece, so you can imagine the goodies there. I had 5 appliance carcusses left to get rid of, plus 2 years worth of demolition materials from the house. Total spent - 5 dollars. Would have cost 40+ at the land fill.

Anywho -

When you bring trash and appliances together, you see some gems. Saw plenty of center dial Maytags, black faced Kenmores, deep freezes, etc. In a mad dash to get rid of my stuff I noticed this very sad Westy off to the side. If it would have been the washer, I would have saved it.

Also saw a MINT KDS-58 that was damaged beyond keeping, and a 1954 Westy dryer too. Man, I know where I'll be next April!

Pretty sad!

Hey Ben, wow.... I would be thinking about taking them for parts (like the console for display purposes), but geez, that's too bad. Of course that dryer looks like it's had much, much better days!

I wonder how that would work... would they allow you to remove items people have dropped off there, OR... would you try to "intercept" them before the drop them off?

I grabbed knobs off various other appliances, but I didn't have time to mess with the Program Computer dryer. It was literally a throw and run pressure when I took the photo. A line a dozen deep was behind me!

I watched a couple load up a washer into their pickup. If it is something you really want and you gave them something, more than likely the staff will look the other way. There was a guy there with a flatbed trailer chucking things like doors, appliance tops, etc. in the back. Not sure if he was a scrapper or working for the city, but he had the right idea.

I used to score heavily when the smaller towns around here held Spring Clean up. Drive up and down the streets, picking from the curb.
But with both unemployment, and the price of scrap steel up, lots of others have the same idea. Not much to pick from these days.
