What a beaut!

That is so cool, especially the blue flange. And is it just me, or is "Pulverator" a great, butch-sounding name for a disposer?

Matt

PS Totally loving your "pimped" comment, BTW.

Progress?

I'm amazed to learn that this machine had three-way grinding and sound-reducing sink and drain connections so many years ago. These features have only just showed up on Insinkerator's new Evolution series this year.

Waste King

Matt,
Waste King was always a premium model, well made and they WORKED too! Almost all major appliance makers had a disposal in their lines at some point, and gradually theu all faded away, even Waste King. Today Waste King is made by Anaheim Manufacturing.
You are right, the "hush cushion" on the WK is very similar to what ISE is using on their new models.
Waste King pioneered the swivel hammers, and was the first continuous feel disposer on the market. Everyone else was batch feed, with GE leading that pack.
The model Greg found today is from 1955 or 56, and is the 2nd generation Waste King. This machine would evolve a 3rd time about 1959 and then go on to be made for 30+ years in various forms as the Imperial Hush, and laters models SS5000-SS8000
I have a mid-line Waste King from 1989 installed in my kitchen sink at present, its a wonderful machine and has never let me down. A way better disposal than ISE!

VERY INTERESTING machine-and such wonderful condition-never used!!I liked WK's unusual swivel hammers.they were very effective.Looked like the "pulverator" had undercutters-like some more "modern" machines. And,loved the cast steel shred rings in machines of those days-tougher and stayed sharper.Would have liked to see ISE's famous cast ring in their newer Evolution machines.Sadly Aneheim engineering is using their cheezy design in the WK machines they build.Too bad they didn't use the older more effetive WK designs. The older WK desaign was much better. Also love the "one million" celebration on the box.And the machine has such a beautiful polished chromed motor case-sad it hides under the sink-too bad it can't be out for all to see!
