I'm trying it out tonight on a fairly large load of colors. As the box instructed, an "HE Full Load" is the top line on the scoop. The clothes aren't heavily soiled, so I'm eager to see how much sudsing actually happens. I also am using the standard fabric softener rinse without the extra spray rinse, to test how well it flushes away the detergent under "normal" rinse conditions (I'm still not convinced that the spray rinse is effective, so I'm not counting it as a normal rinse).

I also grabbed a box of Affresh tablets. After the horrible screeching sound the Bravos made the other night during the spin, with a few small squeals mixed in, I'm at the point of just giving in to Whirlpool and P&G's game and sticking with products they specifically mention or endorse. I also don't want to use bleach for the clean washer cycle, and I'm only going to use minimal amounts for loads of laundry, because of the horror stories I've heard on the effect of chlorine on the bearings and seals, and considering that affresh is specifically mentioned in the manual AND on the control panel of the washer, I figure if I want a chance of keeping the washer I've grown to like alive, I might as well try it their way.

I'll have to give updates on how the Tide performs when the load is done.

I'm interested to find out if the suds collapse as quickly in the powder/liquid for as it does with the pods.
Wish they'd get the Turbo version for Tide With Bleach Alternative. It cleans better than plain old Tide.

As for your Maytag's squealing sounds, I doubt they have anything to do with whether you use Affresh or not. Just pretend it is possessed by the soul of Carmen Miranda, LOL.

I use Tide Washing Machine Cleaner even though the Frigidaire's manual says to use liquid chlorine bleach. I use bleach in several loads a week and don't use fabric softener, so there's never an odor, mildew or "build-up" problem. I run the Clean cycle when prompted (every 50 loads) just to keep the reminder from driving me up a wall.

Wish they'd get the Turbo version for Tide With Bleach A

Have never seen it here in a powder form. It will be interesting to see how the this turbo version performs.

I'm not sure if I'm totally sold on this concept of no bubbles = no detergent residue. Dishwasher detergent does not suds at all but is even more aggressive than laundry detergent. Adding fabric softener will also eliminate suds, but the chemicals will still be there.

appnut - Our Super Target has the powder, but only in the Original scent. Not crazy at all about the smell but I mainly wanted to see its effectiveness in this washer. I looked but did not see it in the liquid or pod versions yet, which surprises me considering how popular those forms are.

I have to say, I am impressed with how it performed with this load. Granted, the clothes were not that dirty, but it did get rid of underarm stains and cleaned the bottoms of socks, and I didn't use any pretreater. The Wisk and All, and the OxiClean detergent would barely touch stains despite the 5 inches of foam they would cause.

During the wash, there were small bubbles in the water, enough to know that there was indeed detergent in the machine, but nothing compared to any of the other brands I've tried, and better than normal HE Tide and Gain. I also didn't use fabric softener, and used the standard rinse, and the water was actually quite clean.

P&G has slightly restored my faith for once, and it seems that they're genuinely trying to make a product that works as advertised and trying to push for regulations to be set on what the "HE" label actually means. I totally believe what they said about there being no standard on the label versus the contents of the package, and that brands slap an HE safe label on the bottle when it's really the same formula they've had for traditional machines for years.

I wonder how long it will be before they make HE Turbo versions of Gain or Cheer.

Also, here is a bigger picture of the logo. I meant to post a better photo. Sorry about that haha.

And Frig, I hope you're right! Ha. I'm so paranoid because of the track record the Cabrio platform seems to have with tub bearings. It almost sounded like the sharp shriek that brakes make once the pads are worn down to the screecher tab. I went ahead and ran the clean cycle in hopes that maybe it has conditioners designed to help coat the seal and any exposed part of the shaft and bearing, and I'll just stick with the high-end detergents if that's what they intend to be used with it. Probably sounds like a "sheeple" thing to do, but I'd rather spend a buck or two more for good detergent than have to keep shelling out repair money from corroded parts.

Surely there wouldn't be bearing issues just in the three months of average use it's had, but somehow it wouldn't surprise me. Over the past month or so I've all but ignored the machine while it's running just so I don't go crazy at every little creak and knock it makes sometimes, but this screech sounded like a tornado siren. I've grown to love how the machine works and performs, just not how it's built. From the outside and from parts a normal user would interact with, it feels solid, but the inner workings are a bit sketchy.

If it does decide to eat through a bearing this soon, I'll have it replaced, considering I bought the 3 year warranty, but I'll most likely call it a wash and send it on it's merry way through Craigslist or something. With big repairs like that being done by careless techs that are in a hurry, it always seems that something will always be a bit "off" about it. I've had that experience far too many times with big car repairs.

Thank you so much for the larger shot and for the test report. I mix powder Tide HE half and half with STPP and have no sudsing issues during washes up to 190F and no rinsing issues. With towels, I do have to use Persil with STPP to avoid the generation of too much froth in the spin after the wash. Persil and the no longer available Dixan are the only two detergents I have found that can behave like model HE detergents in the first spin after the wash with towels.

What is STTP? I tried persil pearls yesterday and had a lot of suds in my top load speed queen. I did not even use a lot. See my post under the "Persil" thread.

Alexander; a word with you young man: Some of us have been waiting 40 years for a Tide product  whose suds don't hang on through multiple rinses.  The wizards at P&G have finally delivered a detergent that rids itself of suds in even the softest water.  Don't rain on our parade with ideas about chemicals remaining even if the suds have vanished.

As David Byrne once said, "Stop Making Sense!"

Sincerely,

Frigilux (currently at the village grocery store filling his cart with every bag of Tide HE Turbo pods on the shelf)

Frig you may have me tempted to give the pods a second go with this new formula. I do wish they'd make Tide Pods with the ORIGINAL Original scent. The two scents I've tried were a bit much, but it's not like all of P&G's scents aren't a bit much anyway lol. Besides Gain. Despite the slight changes it at least still has the same crisp clean smell I've always loved. I can't wait for a turbo version.

*lol*

Eugene; if you're worried about rinsing, I will gladly offer you to send you some ampules of the well water our laundry room is hooked up to - it gets rid of all the suds (even during the actual wash). Just add a few drops to the softener compartment. Tired of overly scented clothes? Send 'em over! A quick rinse and you won't be even able to get any scent on them ever again.

I'm actually impressed with how well it's rinsing out. With this machine only doing one true rinse and using not much water at all, it needs all the help it can get from the detergent going on its way. I've not used the Extra Rinse option deliberately on the four loads I've done with the turbo, and so far all is good.

I also notice that while the Original scent is still not the "Original", they must have toned it down with this new formula. It's no longer knock-you-off-your-feet strong, but oddly a little more pleasant.

Tide Turbo

Saw it at the store this morning. Also shocked that Gain HE powder is on clearance. Better watch your detergent aisles closely, kids!

Why the time reads 7 minute for 25 minutes

This morning, I saw the first TV ad for Tide HE Turbo. They showed two FL washers side by side, one with lots of suds and one with Tide HE Turbo and minimal suds. They said that the secret to the Tide was "quick collapsing suds" which can cut 25 minutes off the cycle time and save 10 gallons of water.

Just Wondering About This

So how will Tide HE turbo perform in a standard top loading non-HE washer? Also, will the turbo action be added to regular Tide in some ample amount of time?
