Purex 3-In-1 Laundry Sheets

I bought a package of these today, on a whim, and was surprised to see three different varieties on the shelf (seems like a lot for such a new concept). My choice was Tropical Escape. Does anyone have experience with this product? It smells awesome, and I like the new idea of a laundry "sheet". Also like the fact that this product is mostly available in HE-friendly formulas.

It would be really cool if it worked! I highly doubt it can beat some gold old fashioned powdered detergent and liquid fabric softener though!

Yeah, Pulsator. I thought of that. True. One of my favorite combinations when I was in college 20 years ago was Arm & Hammer powder detergent, powdered Clorox 2 and Rite Aid liquid fabric softener (about $2 per bottle at the time).

I do not think that these will be too good in the newer he washer because in the he washer that I have kenmore oasis the detergent has to mix with the water and get sprayed on the clothes as they spin.So the best combo is powder detergent and bleach and fabric softner.maybe in a regular washer but my experence with purex detergent has not been good.

Trying it now

Purchased it Sunday as we had a $2.00 off coupon in the paper. Used one sheet already on lightly soiled load in our FL it is low suds and did pretty good even in cold water. We got it to carry on vacation next week.

Will also try a warm load and hot load today.

Have the first load of towels in the washer now on hot with warm rinse. Suds are like the Sears powdered ultra we use so that is good. In the first rince of 4 so will watch to see how well it rinses.

I wonder what technology they use to keep all of the detergent, fabric softener from releasing at the same time?

I'd be worried that you'd have leftover soap in the dryer.

What did the rinse water look like?

Helen is skeptical about those things even though I want to purchase a few packs to collect and use.

I root for the underdogs just like Purex Tabs (another fad that went away. I wish I'd have kept some.

May have to wait for them to go on sale so I can stock up.

The first sheet we used was with cold water and all the detergent was gone from the sheet when taken out of the washer. The rinse water looks good right now will wait to rinse 4 and see. The first load was low temp and the blus softener and static bar was still mostly there. Will be drying this load of towles on the hot towel cycle. Will see then. We usually don't use softener or dryer sheets but will use this time to see. I have some clothes that say do not use fabric softener.

Jason we also wish we had saved some of the tabs they did a good job and were so easy to carry on trips. I had one pack put aside but one day my wife found it and used it!!!!

My next test will be with some gardening clothes will see how the dirt gets out. Will also look at the white socks as they come out of the washer. They are mine I did use in the garden so were dirty.

I opened my package of "Tropical Escape" Purex sheets yesterday, and tried my first one on a large load of white socks. The load came out very clean, with all detergent gone from the sheet. I like the low sudsing (I have a Bosch compact front-loader), and rinsing was thorough. I'd definitely buy these again, but wonder how long they will last on the market.

The towels came out of the washer feeling pretty and I think better rinsed that even the Sears ultra. The detergent was all gone and the softener and static strip was the same as when I put in the washer. After the dryer was finished the sheet was soft with nothing left on it other than a light scent. The towel felt good while folding. Will see about being absorbent when we use them. Very light scent of the Pure that we bought. So far so good will test the gardening clothes tomorrow after tending the garden and mowing our yard and my mothers yard and edging and weed eating. The package does say if heavy soil to use two.

jason--do you ever order free samples from the free sample websites for your fabric collection? So far, I've received every one that I've ordered. Thought this would cool way to get specimens for your collection. I know a a collector of antique bottles that some of the most expensive bottles I own are of the sample variety.

Scale

Do you have a scale accurate to a few grams that might be able to weigh the difference between a new one and a used one? It'd be nice to know how much detergent is in there.

I think that even the smallest of concentrated detergents is diluted and has other fillers added for many reasons, but mostly to make it seem like it's worth more (also to make it easier to measure). I think that people think that a thick liquid detergent is more powerful than a thin one, so I think thickeners are added. I also think that people would have a hard time believing how little active ingredients they're using, so the batches are bulked up a bit to prevent serious overuse.

A weighed sheet would give a good glimpse at just how little detergent a big company actually thinks you can get away with.

I love all of the unique ways detergent manufacturers have come up with to deliver the goods to laundry. Salvo, Vim, Quick-Solv, Act, Purex, Wisk - love 'em all. I bought a box of the new Purex sheets but haven't tried them, I will grab another to go with the unused goodies I have but I do want to try them. I used the EL-2 for the family wash last week and so decided it wasn't the ideal conditions for and "all-in-one" product. It's bad enough that I must hang the sheet on the line and hope for the best for softening but I think the wringer might be just a bit too far. Off to Chicago and Tarantula Arms this week so I'll have to update you next week on the post-vacation laundry.

Good Grief!

So I printed the coupon and took it with me to ShopRite this evening, thinking I would pick up some. Got to the laundry aisle and did a doubletake when I saw the price on these - $7 and change for 20 washes? Roughly 36 cents per wash?

Lets see, Sears detergent at 16 cents, plus 10 cents or so for Final Touch. Still seems pricey to me. Maybe if I used dryer sheets as well, it would come close to the price of these.

Add to that a plastic dispenser, and a plastic-y sheet to throw away every time. I'd prefer a recyclable paper box, scoop, and bottle.

So, no thanks purex. Figure out a way to make the detergent part of the sheet dissolve completely, leaving just the softner strip, like those soap-stamp things in some public restrooms. Put the stuff in a biodegradable box. Its 2009!

I plan to wait for the closeout when these are yanked before I pick up a box for the collection.

That's like the new detergent "DROPSS!" one per full wash....$7.00 for a bag of 20 at lowes....got them on clearance at wal-mart for $3.00, but nothing spectacular as far as cleaning, just convienient if going on vacation or to the laundromat, take a few along and no big bottles or mess...

The prices are different down here in Colorado. The Walmart that I work at has it at $5.95, while Albertsons and King Soopers have them for $4.95. The most: Albertsons, when not on sale, are at $7.99.

I love to try new products like this, but I think it will last just about as long as the Oxi Detergent Ball did. Remember that one? I used them on lightly-soiled loads in my front-loader, because there was no suds. But they weren't up to tackling greasy stains..or stains in general.

I printed the $1-off coupon and will head out to my local HyVee grocery store tomorrow.

As has been mentioned, these would be great to take on vacation or when staying in hotels with coin-op laundry facilities. I stay at Candlewood Suites in Minneapolis, where the laundry (GE machines) is free, so I always make sure to do at least one load.

It seems to work pretty well even on dirty garden soil and from hiking. Just got back from Colorado Springs and hiked several trails so had dirt and sweat to clean. Our motel had washer and dryer for us to use free. In top loads or front load machines we don't see suds in the rinse. The only thing on the softener/static strip on low heat it does not totally go away. If you don't want things to have the softener just pull the sheet out in moving clothes tot he dryer and save for a load that you want to be really soft. Yes great for vacation.
